If you wanted more from Fucked by My Best Friend, try checking out the manga! It's legally available to read in English on MangaPlaza (albeit in a weird format) and the first 6 chapters are free right now. Warning that some of the sexual encounters in it are only dubiously consensual. Overall, I found it to be a really sweet bi love story. I ended up binging the whole thing in one day last weekend.

Hah! When Jean-Karlo signed off from TWIG with the mysterious "See You In Seven... Or Not?" my first reaction was to wonder what Carnelian-adjacent topic TWIA needed him for. You should have let him have the Moonlight Lady rant, dang it. Laughing

Beautiful use of the Mahoro stickers, by the way.

Now if you'll excuse me, I suddenly feel like watching my Yamibou blu-rays again...

It's nice that somebody is making an attempt at a service like this, but yeah, OceanVeil needs some technical work before it has much chance at success. The selection isn't massive, but that is something that grows over time, and hopefully, resources. But, basic functionalities are something else. The video player is not up to what anyone would expect in terms of just working, and I couldn't tell I was missing something or the ability to browse was just not there. Clicking "see more" seemed kind of busted. $13 a month is relatively expensive compared to general streaming services, but I could kind of chalk that one up to having to make up for a relatively small number of customers. However, I personally wouldn't pay for the way things are.

I'm reminded a bit of how the Epic Games Store tried to deflect the criticisms that it didn't have things like a shopping cart as being due to them being new. That might be a reason if you're trying to do something truly new or have a new feature, but when you're doing something that already exists, people expect the basics to be there.

Thanks for the column, I think that, and the news of them expanding their offerings beyond just NSFW titles (a new home for a bunch of abandoned series?) are the push I need to check it out, as it was really hard to tell if it worth the effort from their site without generating an account when looking at Makina-san among the new seasonal offerings.

Both Coolmic and Oceanveil are bitstarve garbage, any hentai DVD looks like Bluray quality compared to those sites. Not worth anybody time and money.

I wish them luck!

My issue this type of content is I really appreciate the story. Gushing Over Magical Girls is my platonic ideal for a series that has plenty of titillation but also compelling motivations and character growth to follow. I can appreciate the fun of more hardcore sexual content in animation but neat and creative ways to integrate the fun into a plot is where I think anime really shines. 100 Girlfriends doesn't have long fan service sections but it is an example of having really creative sexual gags that could engage me if they were drawn out and done in a GOMG style.

By comparison, I like the premise of stories like the aforementioned Fucked by my Best Friend and it sounds fun but I would rather come to love a set of characters over a period of time and have the sexy fun along the way then view straight up hentai that has very short run times.

I am glad they are trying to focus on this type of content and hopefully over time they get a few more story-centric entries.

The use of my religion's name in the title is misleading and in poor taste.

The complaints shared here are why “Just make it a hentai” is not a comment I appreciate about ecchi anime. Making it into hentai anime leads to less time, less scenes, even worse art and animation. It’s a downgrade in everything, with the only addition being mosaic’d genitals. (As Redo of Healer or Isekai Meikyuu Harem show, you can show explicit sex and still be classified as ecchi and get a full show if you never show those. Funny enough: That’s the censorship some old hentai used before mosaics became standard). A problem not mentioned here is the wait between episodes. You may need to wait several months before a new episode of a title that catches your attention. Why would anyone want longer waits and less and worse content?. People saying ecchi shows should go hentai are talking of an ideal that doesn’t match current reality

Should be interesting to see what the upcoming Nukitashi anime does: The source VN uses sex as an integral part of plot, setting and characters: You can’t remove it. But it’s a full ecchi show instead of hentai OVAs. So I imagine it will do the Redo of Healer/Isekai Meikyuu Harem thing where they just don’t show genitals

The best of the NSFW stuff needs a good story. Especially if you want to be entertained.

It's also on Renta, as is Game World Reincarnation, which actually does have a good political storyline that sounds like it was left out of the anime version.

It's unfortunate that they only have the first two segments of Shin Yaranaika, the third one somehow goes even more off the rails with spoiler[them getting captured and sent to a military base, a dance party featuring all the soldiers, ending with Abe shoving a stick of dynamite up his behind and blowing the whole island up.]

This section was missing from Coolmic too though and when I asked back then they said they released all they could, so I guess we'll never get the rest officially.

It's a reference to an old OEL Christian manga series called Serenity where a pop-up text box covers her flipping the bird with "Whoops! Can't show that in a Christian manga!". The series kind of got a traction on /co/ back in the day and eventually the "Christian anime site" variation is a 4chan meme.

A lot of the OceanVeil shows seem to be this very short format of three minutes setup, three minutes sexytimes, one minute conclusion with credits superimposed over. The uncensored second season of My Wife Is the Student Council President on Crunchyroll was a lot like that, actually. I wonder if it more or less lines up with the progression of a single 20-page manga chapter. I guess one could compare episodes of Predator in a Skirt on OceanVeil to corresponding chapters of The Beast Beneath the Skirt on eBook Renta to verify.

but there seems to be nothing on the yuri front.

I wonder if OV would be a good landing spot for A Kiss for the Petals, which I don’t think has ever had a legit western release?

It is his religion so it is his solely his prerogative whether to take offense. Also, there are plenty of 4chan memes on other religions and worldviews that would never be used as titles for ANN articles precisely because of a desire to avoid causing offense to their adherents.

I got an OceanVeil subscription for a month to check it out, and I agree that it's both overpriced for what it offers and more a good starting point than an ideal. (The lack of the search feature is particularly annoying.) Still, I'm glad to see a sit actually legitimately streaming a lot of this stuff, including this season's Makina'san's a Love Bot (which at 12 minutes per ep seems to be one of the longer entries on the site), and I haven't found any issue with the video quality.
