Yeah, I'm very sorry for the webtoon artists that put a lot of hours into making their work available and making it public.

Additionally, the associations criticized PeanuToon for unilaterally terminating contracts without adequate compensation for artists. They argued that since the shutdown was the platform's decision, creators should not bear the financial and emotional burden alone. They called for proper compensation measures.

Yeah, as someone who strongly believe in creator ownership in comics/graphic novel, this is a major stinker when I read this part from the article.

Yeah, either declare bankruptcy and work it out in court (assuming the system in Korea is similar to the US), or do right by your authors as much as possible.

I think it's very likely the artists would probably likely sue if they have enough and strong evidence for that. I wish them luck.

The problem is that when they go to serve the papers there may be nothing there. This could give new meaning to "fly-by-night company". In this day and age, it takes so very little to constitute a company. Management could be operating out of laptop. Employees can be anywhere with a good internet connection. The office could be a simple accommodation address. For webtoons about the only thing that needs to have a physical location is the rented server space that supports the site.

Even if the owner is acting in good faith, when the dust settles there may be nothing left.
