Gonna see it next week, but double Mufasa’s take. That’s telling.

It's almost like nobody leaves Disney's uninspired 3d remakes thinking, "Wow, that was amazing! I can't wait to see more of this!"

They've really lowered folks expectations, and it shows. Even when you get a new story, the hype just isn't there (although Id argue a prequel isnt particularly new or interesting - more lazy since the ending has already been written).

Sonic was good fun. It stayed true to the "lore" (I can barely say that with a straight face - but it got Shadow right), and the characters are what every kid who grew up with Sonic remembers for the most part - not exactly, but generally. I'm a bit older than the Sonic fandom, but I did play a lot of the games and i had a good time with the callbacks. These are video game movies for fans, and Sonic has a lot of young and old fans

I'm definitely one of the detractors for the movie now that I've seen it. It's a kid's movie, and it has Jim Carrey, and I've seen the other two films and they weren't great, but they were fun, sure. But this movie tried to take its premise seriously and it simply couldn't. The story decisions felt half-baked, punches pulled to emphasize more Jim Carrey and hollywood movie one-liners, the acting fell flat, and in a rarity for me (because I'm fragile and will break out in tears at the drop of a hat in movies), I felt more like laughing at most of the emotional bits than crying. Shadow was probably the only bit I liked, but everything else felt bare bones rushed. I didn't care for the movie much at all. I'll just let the people who enjoyed it enjoy it.

Is the hate over Mufasa based on something beyond "live action lion animation is weird" that Lion King got? I haven't been following the movies or discourse, but people are celebrating this feat like it's a cathartic win against Disney.
