Its funny that the creator of Symphogear created their own take on a Music Themed Pretty cure esque series...in the same Year Pretty cure is creating an Idol themed series as well.
Gonna be interesting to see these two compete with each other that way.

Hear me out: having male antagonists is going to hurt this show a lot. You know I'm right.

You might want to spell this one out.
Men being evil in shows is currently 'in vogue'.

Season 1: Fine.
Season 2: Maria, Shirabe, Kirika, and Ver but he was never fought.
Season 3: Carol and the autoscorers.
Season 4: Saint-Germain, Cagliostro, Prelati and Adam.
Season 4: Noble Red, Fudo and Shem-Ha.
Yeah, more then 90% of the battles were against other girls. Ver was never fought (except I guess one scene where he stopped a missile to protect Carol). Adam attacked once and was fought at the end of the series. Fudo was fought once.
You don't have to believe me this will hurt the show, you just need to wait and see.

Precure (clearly a major influence here) has a long story of male villains. From the start to the current season. 20 years and counting

Sailor Moon seems to be doing just fine.

I'm sorry, do people think this is going to be a straight up "classic" mahou shoujo anime?

Given the timeslot and merch advertised: yes. The staff have been open about aiming for the traditional mahou shoujo audience. Not only the Madoka/Nanoha/Symphogear yuri shipper cute girl otaku audience

They released multiple ads of young girls with the transformation items yesterday, it is pretty clearly not going for the same otaku audience as Symphogear.

Ew. And I was looking forward to this anime. If you're going to have males, you should have showed them from the start

Pretty Cure has always had male side characters.
Most of the villains are men as well. Dark King (Twice), Gooyan, Director of Eternal, Moebius, Dune, Noise, Pierrot, King Jikochuu, just to name a few.
@bassgs435: The Staff have said its for both demographics (Hell, Pretty Cure tends to attract Older Male Otaku anyhow, so its kind a moot point, and the showrunners know that as much.)
