Adult Swim original anime and even Watanabe need a W right now so here is hoping. Chad Stahelski is also booked and busy with how much he gets to ghost-direct reshoots in Hollywood. Even this show´s action scenes.

Strong Cowboy Bebop vibes.

EDIT: Kouichi Yamadera, and Megumi Hayashibara are in it as well.

It seems that Hayashibara is starting to voice old women.

Given the synopsis and subject matter and recent years I really have to wonder which direction this show is going to go in the end.

I hope this turns out better than most of Toonami's original anime but I want to believe in Watanabe but I also remember Terror in Resonance.

I wonder if this will fall into the "Toonami Trash" pile like everything else they've been a part of.

The animation looks decent, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed considering the recent slate of Adult Swim's anime releases have been of rather poor quality as of late.

Is Lazarus getting an english dub ? Speaking of that why Toonami/Adult Swim seem starting to promote/airing sub (JP voice) in their original shows, Toonami used to priotitize dub while subtitle only for specials ?

Speak for yourself, dude. I freaking loved Ninja Kamui and Uzumaki and at the very least their original series tend to be way more ambitious and unique than 90% of the mass-produced otaku trash that's been churned out season after season...
Anyways.. as for Lazarus, I can't wait. Definitely strong Cowboy Bebop vibes, which is absolutely fine by me...everything looks spot on.

Their biggest success so far critically was an adaptation in Shenmue, and that was handcuffed by the CR/Warner divorce to never get a Season 2. Their original works either completely fall apart immediately, or start strong and fall apart. Then there's Uzumaki, which fell apart more due to its weird production and demands that were never going to get fulfilled leading them to wonder if they should terminate the project for the write-off.

I can't say it's a complete failure though, because Ninja Kamui and Uzumaki did very well on Max. There's a clear audience for anime with their viewers, and since Aniplex is the only company that will play ball with Toonami, a dearth of content they need to fill themselves lest it be nothing but Aniplex and rejected kids shows.

The animation and action choreography looks great and you can tell the show is trying to emulate the Cowboy Bebop look, even the main character looks like a younger version of Spike. Now, I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing, I don't think Shinichiro has ever tried to replicate the success of Cowboy Bebop in the past, some of his shows post-Bebop like Samurai Champloo, Space☆Dandy and Carole & Tuesday, while sharing some superficial elements, have their own identity. And I'm saying this because I think there have been some attempts in the past to recreate the success of Cowboy Bebop, even earlier this year I think Metallic Rouge was one, since it was a Bones series and we know Bones was founded by former Sunrise members who worked on Bebop, but Rouge wasn't very good. Still, I trust on Shinichiro to deliver a good show.
Also, I wonder in which country WB. will have this series dubbed? Among the recent anime from [adult swim], the FLCL sequels, Housing Complex C and Uzumaki were dubbed in Argentina, Rick & Morty: the Anime was dubbed in Venezuela (though the titular characters were dubbed in Mexico with new VAs), and Ninja Kamui was dubbed in Mexico. I'd like for Lazarus to be dubbed in Mexico since all of Shinichiro's anime that received LA Spanish dubs were dubbed there, with the exception of Kids on the Slope which was dubbed in Argentina, though Kids received a Mexican re-dub a couple of months ago

Space Dandy was good, I'll fight anyone who says otherwise, so maybe Watanabe is the magic bullet that can evade the Adult Swim original curse.

Jason DeMarco is just standing in the way, and their track record isn't something to be proud of.
