I wish this first season had been two straight cours. I feel that shounen style shows benefit if they have 2 cours seasons.

Gen Harumi´s backstory is told in the B-Side gaiden manga and it can be read without an issue after S1. Likely why MangaPlus immediately licensed it.

For any other shonen, I agree with you; for Kaiju No 8 I may disagree.
We are in chapter 109 for manga right now, and anime stops at chapter 38, you could seamlessly start on chapter 39, that sounds like a lot chapters left for second season, but the reason many manga readers (not me) complain about pacing since there are many action scenes and cross-page panels, not a lot happen in one chapter, plus bi-weekly release, they feel the pacing is too "slow"
If you binge-read it, which many anime-only did post episode 9-10, they all had super positive experience, and anime fixes this issue as well by adapting action scenes with justice plus many original scenes
By waiting a bit, it does give authors more time to draw more manga chapters, otherwise we will be waiting a LOOOOOOOOONG time if they ever deicide a season 3, if there will be one

Can’t say I’m surprised. When the ending theme gets radio play in the US, it’s a big deal.

I just hope that this sequel is a season, not a movie.

That probably has more to do with OneRepublic being a well-known act which has been around and successful in the pop scene for a long time.
Anyway, I'm pleased but not the slightest bit surprised to hear that more animation is coming. This one has overperformed as the season progressed, and it feels like it's just now finally advancing out of the introductory stages. I'll definitely be anticipating its return.

That makes sense. I was under the impression that the manga had way more chapters.

I had a feeling they were going to announce a second season but I'm glad to see it.
Hopefully the second season can improve a lot on the manga's pacing.
Also of course Kouki Uchiyama is in it now.

Not too surprising, but great to see regardless. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long.

It should be Gen Narumi.
Anyways, considering what happened at the end, I'm not surprised there's a 2nd season in the works.
