Jason Demarco has denied it on Bluesky:

Did ANN vet this confirmation through someone at Sola Entertainment, or are they going exclusively off the Business Wire article? I only ask because the Executive Producer of the show at Adult Swim, Jason Demarco, says A second season has not been announced. The Business Wire quotes Joseph Chou, "We hope this game will continue to entertain the fans around the world while we work on Season 2 of the anime" but I don't know if that constitutes an official confirmation of it being greenlit (it could just be in development, for instance).

Chou is a producer on the series and I assume DeMarco is an executive producer. Chou might have misspoke or it's a case of the left and right hands not talking to one another, but I have a hard time believing DeMarco wouldn't know there was a new season and Chou would. Hopefully it's cleared up soon.

I am not sure there is any margin for more story. It ended well, and all plot points were adressed.

It appears the press release was recalled, so it was likely a case of mentioning season 2 prematurely.
No harm no foul in this case, but in the future, it would be preferable if ANN would reach out to reps for added clarification, rather than simply taking from vaguely worded press releases and/or articles from other outlets. |

Anything is possible in anime land but it would surprise me.

Considering how many flashbacks the first season had, they can easily make a prequel.

On the one hand, the final episode devoted a noticeable amount of effort to seeding a second season. On the other hand, it was basically just ok, which made it hard to believe there would be much interest in more. If I had to hazard a guess, it still did well compared to adult swim's other efforts at original anime productions, and that is good enough for them.

Hard pass, lol. A painfully middling work at the end of the day, despite the select things it did pretty well.

Hey, I'm in the anime news! Hi world!
Yeah, a shame this wasn't really official. Ninja Kamui's quality was one of the biggest surprises and best saving graces for Toonami after the plague hit, and getting more of it would be a big win for block morale and especially vindicating for Jason Demarco when time after time the originals he's funded have been non-starters. This show getting a sequel would be a great opportunity for it to fix the mistakes it made and allow this first finale to retroactively become more like a mid-season finale to a more proper one next cour. |
