I'm using a desktop with Chrome browser, and on the website I'm getting "Top News" at the beginning of the page.
I use the "Text Only Compact view".
The "Top News" is two days old and I've already read it, so I'm not interested in seeing it again.
Thank you for any assistance.

The new Top News is a pinned section of the general news where a few articles stay permanently until unpinned.
My Feedback:
Positive:
- It enables highlighting of articles that can easily be skipped when you have too many articles on the top level Rotating News Highlight above that section.
Negative:
- It feels like a third wheel. Literally it is the third section of highlighted news after the Rotating News Highlight and the Side Bar.
- It disrupts the ordered feeling of the General News section of the site, as now a section of General News does not obey its date formatting.
- It pushes the ordered by date news further down the screen space.
This is feedback from my initial reaction to the feature. It was especially odd seeing articles I had previously read in the general news section turn up pinned the next morning. I respect that choices of site design shall be evaluated and iterated upon by your team members with web design expertise.

Thanks. We hadn't thought of that.
I'll have something to that effect added shortly.

No problem!
Another quick update on this matter: The team was able to fix this and will be merged on the first week of July (which is next week).
We'll let everyone know once it's up!

Went out of town for a few days, and now I've signed back in and the Top News is back at the top of the news page.

Strange. Were you logged out when you came back ?
I'll look into it with the dev team and get back to you, but first I wanted to check that since it seems like the most obvious explanation.
Actually, when you said "Top News is now gone," was it because we didn't use it for a few days last month, or was it because you edited your user prefs to hide it?
The setting is in the gear icon at the top right of the news on the front page.

I've been logged in the whole time. I rarely log out unless the system logs me out. I'm here everyday and I read practically every single article, so there really wasn't any day that I wasn't here.
I'm trying to remember if I was logged out when I came back from vacation, it's completely possible.
I didn't even realize the the "Hide Top News" was in the gear icon. When it disappeared last week, it did so on its own.
Anyway, I've clicked on "Hide Top News" and it's gone, so thanks so much for steering me in the correct direction.
