Oh lord, not the strongest shitposters of the west vs. the strongest shitposters of Japan. Praying for the Japanese fans.

I will continue to support fan scanlations even more because of crap like this.

I don't think you read the article right. Only the user comments are AI translated. |

You would regardless of this article or news story. Come on. I barely use the comment sections for chapters as it is; I definitely have no use for this feature even if it wasn't using ai. |

Don't most social media already have the 'translate this' button anyway?

I've genuinely never felt like machine translated social media posts are missing from my life... sorry, I don't know why browsers like firefox are trying to push this. Most of the time I'm ever actually curious enough to know what xyz comment says, it's because I can already read that language albeit badly, and its always fun to try practice and read it yourself....

Actually if this was only for random manga that no one translated, or was abandoned for years, these type of manga with no hope for translation i would use it no doubt, better than nothing.
But for anything outside of it its stupid. Edit: Or so i though but its just for the comments hahaha, well thats way better. Last edited by lucio542 on Thu Apr 25, 2024 4:36 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I only buy physical manga in English so I guess this wouldn't apply to me, lol

"I comment without reading the actual news": the thread
It's the comments that are AI translated; the comments, not the actual manga. From what I've seen, this is an attempt by Shueisha to reach out to Japanese readers who are blocked from Manga Plus and non-Japanese readers who can access Jump+, but all the comments are in Japanese. Building a worldwide online community of manga lovers; something that sounds good in mission statements. So if you join Manga Plus Universe and say you speak Spanish, French, etc., all the comments you make will automatically be translated into Spanish, French, etc. But, as usual, 99% of AI translations use English as a base (i.e. French->English->Japanese), which is far from ideal. Does it work? Not really. Firstly, there are too few comments, compared to the hundreds or even thousands that a chapter of Chainsawman or Oshi no ko brings. Secondly, the AI seems to have stopped translating comments made in Japanese. Again, this was announced almost two weeks ago on the Manga Plus web/app. |

I see these things as a start of the ai translated manga. things start slowly and from a distance, like this.

Well, something tells me that it's going to end up in a major failure in one month given that AI translations has gone wrong in couple of scenarios.
I would give it a month or 2 until Shueisha call off and shut down the AI translation project due to complaint from our bilingual Japanese-English speakers that are going to use that site and noticed how many mistakes the app is making. |
