Sony don't want to manufacture a limited edition Rebirth PS5 console in Japan, but they made sure to manufacture an error with the discs. Ain't that something.

(Wait for it...)

spoiler[ “I heard that if you put the discs in the reverse order, upside down, you can bring back Aeris.

You can trust me. My uncle works at Sony.”]

This reminds me of how Strider 2 on the PS1 had its disc labels swapped, so the "Strider 2" disc was actually Strider 1 & the "Strider 1" disc was actually Strider 2. Still, even that isn't as bad as here, as those were at least two different games, not an install disc & a play disc.

It's giving me the bad vibes similar to the recent Persona 3 Reload language error incident... and I got the collector's edition too man.

But hey, looking at the bright side, at least it's just the label.. D:

They sure do. We saw it with a few games in the prior console generation, more so at the end as games were cross-gen so it kind of made sense there was too much to fit into one disc. But, we've blown right past ultra-blu-ray with double the space being enough. Though there are some companies that, instead of doing a second disc, make you download the rest. Jedi Survivor was like that, though EA didn't even bother to fully use the one disc.

I'm reminded of part of Metal Gear Solid 4 where Otacon remarks how great it is that blu-ray discs held enough data that disc swapping weren't necessary. I suppose the joke still holds since the data disc isn't inserted after the install is done, but still.

Technically, Ultra-blu-ray can still be pushed to higher capacity discs, but companies opt out, because those cost more to manufacture, so using multiple smaller capacity discs is cheaper.

I think in MGS4's case, there was some thing regarding PS3's OS that wouldn't let you initially install everything first, but this was later patched so you could install all of it.

It's a similar problem on Switch cartridges. Companies are cheap, and don't want to pay more for higher storage on cartridges, so they opt for the cheapest storage and make you download the rest. I refuse to support companies that do this. I'd rather they just raised the cost of the base game to compensate for the additional cost than inconvenience me with digital downloads.

I'd also argue for the idea of staggered physical releases. So a company can release their game digitally-only first. Then after they've worked out whatever patches etc. they need after digital purchasers test it, then they can release a complete physical edition a couple months later that no longer needs any more patches. I don't mind waiting.
