Finished reading volume 18 a few weeks ago.
I'm curious to see how the story ends. |

We're still waiting for someone to rescue the novel license after Sol Press went belly-up...

Hm, I wonder if it's ending will make Square Enix try to capitalize on it more by finally getting a second season?

At last!!! After all these years I can finally read how it ends.
I really hope the LN license can be rescued somehow. I heard through the grapevine that it was difficult to do so because the rights to the translation Sol Press used are up in the air, and even a brand new translation would probably be too close to the old one that it would be a legal liability. If that's true, I hope the issue can be worked out somehow. As for a second season... well, stranger things have happened, I suppose, and it wouldn't be the first time something got a new anime season to promote the end of the source material. But dare I hope? Dare I dream?! |

Author should mention that Sol Press went defunct in California, so impossible to get any volumes, 1 thru 3 or nor are any later volumes being published. J Novel saved quite a few titles from Sol Press this last year, but still waiting for this to be saved.
Let's not forget that I paid for volume 4 and 5 from sol Press, but yeah... I'll just forget about that money. |

The author has nothing to do with any of that. This is for the original Japanese release.

I thought the series had already finished. Looks like Stella and Ikki get married!
Now if only someone would rescue the novels in English... |

Finally. I'm honestly not a fan of the direction the novel was heading. It shouldve ended on Vol9 but it keeps stretching on and it becomes basic shonen story.

So would I but this just came out at the wrong time. Powerhouse shows One Punch Man S1, Haikyuu S2 and Noragami S2 all came out that same season. As did the EXTREMELY SIMILAR Asterisk War, which unlike Chivalry got 2 cours upfront, and Seraph of the End S2. Add to that Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. And for shounen ecchi fans you had another season of the Bakemonogatari powerhouse, Shomin Sample, Anti-Magic Academy, plus the even more ecchi New Devil. And this was also before the western - really global - streaming boom flooded the anime industry with so much money that "everyone wins a trophy ... er everything with a pulse gets a second season" that we have now. Had this show come out any other time than Fall 2015, it does way better. Even had it come out Winter 2016, it would have only had S2 of Asterisk War, Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle and Pandora in the Crimson Shell as shonen ecchi competitors, and the general shonen competitors (Erased, Assassination Classroom S2, Konosuba, Durarara S2, Gate S2 plus another favourite of mine that won't get a second season either, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash) weren't as big as OPM, Haikyuu and Bakemonogatari installments. |

The revival of The Devil is a Part-Timer sure does argue for a potential season 2 of Chivalry, or, really, any other one-season-extended-commercial-for-the-manga/novel show, doesn't it, though? I mean, at least, on the theoretical level. I've got to say, though, that when I started to become aware of Sentai's crazy semi-monthly sales, it was Chivalry of a Failed Night that got me to try them and instantly get hooked on my first anime since Robotech, which I first saw during its original syndicated run when I was a teenager. Since there were so few episodes of it, I looked up the similarly-themed Asterisk War and the designs for it just didn't speak to me. And some of what I read about the differences between Chivalry and Asterisk War turned me off the latter -- Asterisk's mythology is clunkier and more jargon-y, and the personal stakes for its great-at-everything main character seem to be much lower than they are for Chivalry's Ikki, who is being held back by the crazy biases against him for having a less obvious power with some serious drawbacks. If a revival of the Chivalry anime is just a pipe dream, I'd sure love for TPTB to untangle the rights to the light novels so that English translations of the light novels could start flowing again. I'd like to see how it turns out, especially now that it has a real ending. |

Can't believe it took three years for Volume 19 to release after Volume 18 was released in 2020. I guess the author really wanted to tie-up any loose ends. Man I wish Rakudai would get another season or continuation of some sort for the anime.
