Question: Does this release include the option to Switch between both English and Japanese language tracks like the original AA trilogy port does?

I remember reading that the Japanese fandom really does not like AJ:AA, to the point that it shows up in Google's autocomplete suggestions.

I just tried it, and one of the top options for "Gyakuten Saiban 4" was "Gyakuten Saiban 4 hidoi", so that might say something. Another was "Gyakuten Saiban 4 kurorekishi naze; looking at some of the top results does reinforce the notion that it has a reputation for being the series' "dark history".

But does this trilogy have the no flashes option? The 1st trilogy does not. GAA did however but what about this 2nd trilogy?

Don’t know how anyone can pretend the 4th game never happened when Apollo, Trucy, and some other characters introduced in the 4th game show up in the 5th and 6th game. I still think it’s weird to call this the Apollo Justice Trilogy when Apollo is only the main character of one of the 3 games that encompasses this trilogy whereas he’s the tertiary main character of the fifth and the secondary main character of the sixth game.

I think what people really like to pretend is that Phoenix Wright's disbarment never happened...which, honestly, was a really contrived and dumb plot point, on top of Phoenix being completely OOC during that whole game. I get he matured, really, but there's no way his personality woudl change so *much*.

Not surprisingly, Phoenix Wright received his bagde back for the 5th game and had his past personality again, as if that whole thing never happened --- his reputation didn't take a hit at all for that, either.

The characters introduced in the 4th game, people like them, so they wouldn't remove them.

The impression I always got was that what had fans up in arms was the idea that the developers were trying to replace Phoenix with Apollo, and that Apollo would be the face of the franchise going forward (with Phoenix sliding into the background in a mentor role).

The heavy backtracking on that front--even in 6, where Apollo really should have been the main lead, Phoenix was featured first, and was just as prominent--suggests the devs got the message, and won't try that again.

Honestly, I know it's an unpopular opinion, but Apollo Justice is my favorite Ace Attorney game, and I liked Apollo as a protagonist much more than I ever liked Phoenix. I get that fans were displeased with Phoenix's sudden 180 personality change, but I thought it intriguing -- and making Phoenix just as weird as the clients he decried in the original trilogy was a fun touch.

I think the developers kind of shot themselves in the foot post-Apollo Justice, though, by walking back all the decisions they made in that game in order to appease fans. It made Phoenix's disbarment seemed even more random and ridiculous instead of actually relevant to the plot and the later games more incoherent. If they had stuck to their guns, I'd definitely remember this trilogy more fondly than now, and they'd have gotten a better story out of it.

In a franchise notorious for contrived and dumb plot points?

I mean he lost a job he cared about why wouldn’t he be bitter and cynical especially as the person responsible for this was someone he trusted and did it for incredibly trite reasons

People like the important and not all that important recurring characters of the original trilogy and one of the most common complaints at least in the English speaking segments of the fanbase regarding the fourth game was.

Why aren’t Gumshoe, Wendy Oldbags, & Maya in this game. Which was a rather dumb complaint back in the day alongside the criticism of the game’s soundtrack for somehow not being good as the music for a set of games that were originally composed for the Gameboy Advance.

Yesss I'm so happy to see they went all out with this Trilogy and gave it the same deluxe treatment as the Great Ace Attorney one! I echo so much of what was in this review, from the Court-Records forum browsing for Sprite animations, to loving Apollo Justice despite so many fans hating it for not having Edgeworth in it, to still enjoying Dual Destinies despite its flaws and "soft reboot" vibes aha. To being brought to tears for the finale of Spirit of Justice and just loving how much of a return to form everything in that game felt.

Really excited for this, and I'm glad to hear they gave these games the love and care they deserve. Hopefully the future of this series is bright and has much more to show us!

Nah, speaking as someone who followed the Japanese outcry very closely as it was happening, Apollo himself was relatively popular, with a minority of the complaints being about how he wasn't as hot-blooded as advertised.

Japanese fans hated everything else. They hated Klavier for being too easy-going, Phoenix for having turned into a creep within a few months of the nearly universally beloved Gyakuten Saiban 3, the witnesses for being a bunch of not-so-nice-people you weren't invested in helping, and pretty much everything about Trucy.

(I personally think the English version of the game purposefully softened a few of my own personal complaints, but the Japanese version was just completely unpleasant for me to play through--and I usually like dark humor!)

Japan has a ton of nostalgia for that one huh? It's on my lower end of the franchise honestly! I feel like you can tell Shu Takumi was really struggling in a lotta places with that one, and a lot of the plot and characters, especially toward the end, get so extremely silly aha.
Still a good game, but the nostalgia for it as if it's the peak of the series is wild to me.

As much as Klavier annoyed me (I was pretty much always on Ema’s side, as much as she snackoo’d me!), I’m *dying* to know what the Japanese fandom disliked about Trucy. I expected her to get on my nerves the second I met her (I’ve only ever played the English version), but I found her to be a delight! Phoenix’s 180 did always bother me initially, but I’ll have to replay the game, because to my recollection, the English game strongly implied spoiler[a lot of it was a ruse to smoke out a certain witness in the final case.]

English-speakers too. And Bridge to the Turnabout in particular still regularly tops "best AA case" rankings.

I'm another person who really enjoyed Apollo Justice when it first came out in English. I like Phoenix as well, but it was kind of disappointing how AJ seemed to set Apollo up as the new main protagonist with Phoenix as his mentor, only for Dual Destinies to make Phoenix the main protag again and shove Apollo further into the background.

I'm not sure if I'll get this trilogy yet (I'm currently playing The Great Ace Attorney, since it was on sale before Christmas), but I haven't played Spirit of Justice yet, so I might consider it later.

Oh yeah really? I haven't seen it rank high ever since we got the Great Ace Attorney games honestly, but nostalgia is a heck of a thing.
