Removing all the old videos strikes me as being too extreme. Hopefully they’ll be reuploaded later.

Depending on the voice actor, leaving a video with their voice actors up can cost some pretty big money.
I doubt the videos will ever be reuploaded. |

What does this even have to do with anything? It's her "actual voice", so when they change VAs they have to pretend the old stuff never happened? Such a weird statement |

I agree this is very odd, Sanrio makes a lot of money from Hello Kitty. Therefore, they could afford to pay royalties to Megumi Hayashibara even if she's no longer the voice of the character. But for Sanrio to take down old video of Hello Kitty because of that is just extreme and really unreasonable. The fact that they shut down the channel and removed all the video, this is going to be another case of lost media if they aren't made available. |

I thought that Japanese voice actors didn't get residuals (ie royalties from ongoing sales or broadcast/streaming of works in which they appear)? You previously said at animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=5353533#5353533
So, what is the extent of voice actors and singers getting residuals from appearances on anime? |

That was about songs, this is about voice acting. Two completely different categories. (I know it sounds weird, but songs and voice acting have completely different regulations) |

Thanks for the clarification. Do you know of any articles in English or Google-translatable that explain how anime voice actors came to be (relatively) well paid and the general situation regarding residuals/royalties for voice acting and singing in anime? If there aren't any, it would be good if ANN could finally research and publish an article on the subject. |

Yeah, as of this article, I can't find any information on how much seiyuu make regarding residuals when it comes to voice acting, and songs. I would like to see ANN do a deep-dive and in-depth information on this. |

God that is the most soulless thing I've heard a company say about their VA. Especially after 33 years.

And you will never know because the voice acting industry does not put those numbers on public display. Also, it depends on a variety of factors. Contracts, agency, where the voices are used (region), for how long, what kind of media is it, etc. Currently dealing with a royalty battle of my own. |

I get Sanrio's point of view. When Mel Blanc had to bow out of voicing Barney Rubble on The Flintstones for a season due to a health issue, the difference between his voice and that of his substitute, Daws Butler, was substantial in a Two Darrens (Bewitched's Dick York vs. Dick Sargent) sort of way. So I get Sanrio wanting to pull everything and re-record everything with the new Kitty VA.
On the other hand, there should be room for the fans to get to keep hearing their VA of choice. Have the first and second VA recordings as alternate audio tracks. How hard would that really be? |

Are such regulations available in a Google translatable or official English translation? |
