I feel like Shy is likely going to go down as an immensely underseen series which sucks cause it's easily one of the best of the season so far for a variety of reasons, least of which is the fact that it's great to see a superhero story embrace the more heroic ideals that the genre was originally founded on.
Glad Steve brought up Masaomi Ando's direction cause he's one of anime's unseen greats right now. Astra Lost in Space, Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, Scum's Wish, School Live!, just to name a few, are all great to fantastic and he has a very distinct style involving his stellar usage of paneling, layering, and how his colours just pop. Shy might be his best looking yet from that angle (though for my money Hanako-kun remains his most visually distinct).

Why does everyone say that when 2 people hang out in anime it's a date. She was thanking Shy by taking her out like a friend would. Nothing romantic about it. Shy blushes because she's always nervous and well shy. The other girl blushes because she's hanging out with a hero an idol of hers.

Language is a tricky thing. People sometimes use the word "date" for a platonic friends outing. Sometimes people are being playful and use the word "date" as a joke to suggest something is romantic when they know it's not. Other times people want something to be romantic regardless of the text or the author's intent so they project their own desires and interpretations onto a scene.
Occasionally something that reads as platonic is actually intended to be romantic but is too subtle for most of the audience to pick up on.

The author has done girls' love themed idolmaster doujins before they were a professional, I believe, and later on in the manga there's a girl who is unambiguously in love with Teru which much later leads to some instances of Iko acting in a rather jealous manner.
It's not an explicitly yuri series but the author pretty consciously leans into and teases it.
All of that said, this has so far been a very good adaptation of the source material, especially visually. The manga has a lot of really trippy art during scenes with Stigma or lots of flashy, neat layouts reminiscent of someone like JH Williams III (there's one scene that involves darkness being dispelled and the panels are drawn as a sun emanating rays of light for example) so it's nice that it got paired with a director who can bring that same sort of visual flair in a way that makes sense for anime.
I can't help but compare and contrast it another Champion series I love that got adapted this year, Ippon Again. Ippon was good in spite of how bad the visuals were a lot of the time (ugly art, poor/slideshow animation, character designs that at times barely looked like the manga) because the actual writing of the source material was so strong. Shy's writing is strong and it's got the visuals to match with it; nice writing and nice visuals. I hope it does well enough to keep getting more seasons.

I'm not completely sold on Shy, but I'm willing to give it another pair of episodes to win me over. Some of the lines are a little cringe worthy and there's diabetic inducing levels of sweetness that makes me want to wash my mouth out with water. However, her struggles with social anxiety (it goes beyond simple shyness) and the more darker qualities of the show have potential. Whether they lean into it or handle it superficially I think will determine its success for me.

Its a trend we see more often where creators tease something romantic to get fans excited or shipping characters even if it never amounts to anything. I mean your not wrong it definitely looks like 2 friends hanging out, but there's enough blushing and consideration of each other to make some viewers wonder. Also have you seen the ED? Its mostly Shy and Iko running together, etc. Why would they make it that way? Isn't the show about Shy? Again probably more teasing that will lead to nothing, but fanfic/doujinshi.

Eh, not me. I'm a little tired of the trope that beating the crap out of someone is because deep down you care or are a "kind person". Yeah, no. Beating the tar out of a 14yr old girl is not heroic even if you think its for her own good. There's got to be a better way and if you are dead set on stopping this child from becoming a hero because you don't think she's cut out for it or you think its way too dangerous then you should just confiscate her little bracelets of power. Also her demonstrating that she has the will to fight still doesn't mean she should still be a hero if its going to be that deadly. So congrats Ziggy Stardust you failed on two counts. I'm giving this series one more episode to prove its worth my time instead of annoying me, in the meantime I'm calling social services on Mr. Stardust.

We got used to what our national stereotype in other pop culture is *a long time ago*. It's like, what do you do with a stereotype - you embrace it!

Four episodes in (I'm consistently one behind) and if I had to summarize my experience with SHY so far in a single phrase, it would be "mild annoyance". I can see how the show can be seen as good, and I find plenty good about it too. (Unilord is best girl, insert heart-shaped emoticon here.) But whenever I watch it, I feel ticked at various things. Ticked at Teru being down on herself so often and regularly treating her successes and failures in a pessimistic light. Ticked at characters like Stardust and Lady Black thinking the best way to encourage Shy is to act like dicks. Ticked at the underlying feeling that things are gonna end up turning bleak like all superhero properties do at some point. Ticked at there being no confirmed episode count a month into its broadcast. I'm hoping these nitpicks are something the show will either grow out of or embrace in a manner that won't annoy me as much as they do, but sometimes I have to wonder if pre-emptively nicknaming the show "SHY-nobi no Ittoki" was some sort of unintentional omen...

I think there's one of two reasons for it:
- They're seeing something that's not there and are trying to connect non-existent dots.
- Come to conclusions because of all the media out there already that does that exact thing that they would have watched, and thus are projecting those onto this.
There is one thing that does bother me though (unrelated to the above), but do we know how many episodes this is going to run for? I don't recall seeing an exact episode count for the anime's run.

Wasn't SHY confirmed to be 2 cours? At the pace it's going, it seems like a 26-episode show if they cut any one-off stories.

You know, I've recently considered the possibility that it could, in fact, be two cours. I mean, it's the only possible reason they could be holding out on both the episode count and the home video release information.

I do find it amusing we have two shows this season where we have our lead female main character being a lady-magnet with this and Hikikomari!
I'm still really enjoying SHY so far, and I hope there will be 2 cours of this. It feels like the type of a long-running shounen anime I'm willing to watch (unless somehow Teru loses screen time).

That's entirely possible; But then that raises another question - Is it one continuous run, or will it be split u[p like 8-bit's other multi-cour titles have been?

Ugh. Neither the characters nor the story are strong or deep enough to support an entire freakin' episode of exposition.

Considering it was just confirmed to be 12 episodes (if MyAnimeList is sure, then they're sure, except when Netflix dumps half the promised episodes), I'm guessing they're gonna split the cour.

Relax, only half of this week's episode was exposition.
