The adaptation has held up well this season, so editors must have realised killing the goose isn't in their interests. Better late than never, but it isn't the first time creators are worked to exhaustion because of the marquee magazine's exacting deadlines.

Interestingly, the author mentioned the break had nothing to do with his health, that instead the break was to give him more time to research.
In my opinion, it's probably both. He's mentioned on Twitter about barely making deadlines, and considering what happened in the latest chapter, the research part makes sense.

Let's pray it's implying some kind of continuation because the few latest chapters really have this "home stretch" vibes, this serie not only deserves more but also, we don't have much real horror mangas ongoing in shonen magazine at this moment ( if i remember correctly Dark Gathering was the very first from JUMP SQ ), there are plenty of seinen horror but they just don't target the same public as Dark Gathering.

Well, whether for health and research, I hope this turns out well for the author. Especially because I've really enjoyed the series in anime form.

It’s the Home Stretch of the Dark God Saga, but there is still Kuubo and its entourage to deal with, but plus they still have haunted spots over the rest of Japan to go to. Plus it will be interesting to see the new player that arrived in the latest chapter changes things.

Yes, I know, I'm just afraid of a sudden stop when there are still many unknown territory with this apparently implied health issue, but this press release from J-SQ could simply be a formality without any worries.
