I see ANN has cited the Variety article which I shared earlier.

Quote:
In related news, McDonald's Japan announced that it will not renew contracts with Johnny's, citing a zero-tolerance policy for human rights violations. Similar reports indicate that Nissan, Kirin, SUNTORY, Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire, Japan Airlines, and Asahi are disassocating themselves from Johnny's and will no longer use their talent in commercials. Meanwhile, Mos Burger confirmed that it will continue using Johnny's talents for advertising.

Yep, the cancelling of Johnny's is in full start mode. Don't know how many other companies may cancel/cut with Johnny's due to the scandal. But it's a start. Regarding the Mos Burger thing, I never heard of that company, is Mos Burger that well-known? I expect Mos Burger to face a backlash over their continuing ties with Johnny's.

Considering the Mos Burger is a japanese based company, its no wonder they still tolerate them, since pretty much everyone in knew about this and kept quiet for decades. (sc^^^ them). Look i know we live in age regarding sensitive language and racial accusations but cmon. there is a limit.. it is a serius problem in japan and Mos Burger attitude is another statement to that. it is that attitude that allowed jhonny and his company to get away with in the first place.

At least the rest of the business partners are cutting out ties and the victims will receive some form of compensation.

Not just lose buisness, They better go bankrupt and cease from existing period and the name will forever be tarnished for what they allowed to occur.

Oof, can't say they don't deserve it. And with talent being barred from brands, don't be surprised to see talent leaving or the agency struggling to get new talent. They could have settled this decades ago, but they decided to protect a predator and now it make take the whole company down.

Yeah. That’s not going to happen.

Johnny’s is so engraved as a part of Japan’s culture. Their pay for each job is enormous, from what I’ve heard. Even with a few sponsors lost (who might come back once their compensation and fixes are done a little better. They still have a long way to go, though), they’ll be just fine. They are getting tons of work from other places (magazines, TV, etc).

Well, if Johnny started the company in life then he sure can screw them over in death. The Kitagawa family losing control of their business all because of the original Kitagawa.

Thanks to mdo7 for the news tip.

You're welcome ANN, although it might help if you subscribe to entertainment news (ie: Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline Hollywood), that might help you get the news out of Japan/Asia better, I would recommend subscribing to Variety's Asia Weekly newsletter, that helps a lot. That's how I know what's going on in the Far East including Japan.

As Mewpudding101 said, it's not going to happen. But I could imagine the financial value of Johnny's Entertainment could take a major hit from this scandal, and probably lowered enough for a big company to buy them out. I wouldn't mind seeing HYBE buying out Johnny's in the same manner it bought out Scooter Braun's company, Ithaca Holdings and it's attempt to buy shares of SM Entertainment many months back.

When the founder and main figure head of the company got away with assaulting boys all the way up to his death things weren't going to go away quitely. The fact that all the talent, including the ones assaulted got branded with the name Johnny's Jrs, that just magnified the disgusting facts by 100x

That the United Nations had to do an investigation, because Japanese law enforcement has failed the victims, I think it's time for the Johnny talent agency to be put in the grave. Close up shop and scatter what assets are left to the victims as compensation. There is no point in trying to resume business as usual, especially since the main bad guy has his name on the company.

Them losing business partners now kind of makes me side eye all the listed companies. When it was common but "quiet" knowledge, they didn't want to address it or cut ties, but they get called out loud in Western media, so now they drop? I hope people are pressuring those companies on social media not just to keep their ties cut, but to invest some of their money back to abuse victims in some way.

That's a shame that Higashiyama also has that history and isn't being forced to step down at all. That company has so much clean up, it's rather frightening how far it all goes.

Well, I don't see why the talents themselves should be punished for it, especially considering that the company itself seems to not be keeping any money it will make to pass on to the victims. So, arguably, this helps, though understandably, other companies don't want to be associated. Mos Burger probably has a long term contract that they will probably let exoire and not renew.

The talent ought to transition out from the company, however, though that may depend on their contracts, but under the present circumstances, I can see the company letting them go without repercussions. But it may be hard for them to jump to another place right away, so it is likely once the company goes down, only the top talent gets hired elsewhere, but a good many may never find work in the industry again.

Johnny's literally also had a boy band named Sexy Zone, with 4/5 members being underage during their debut (with Marius Yo, the youngest, at age 11).

Johnny named it that himself, and he knows English (having been born and raised in the US, and he also taught English at one point), so it makes it all the more worse.

I thought they declined the name change because the official fanclub did not want to change it. Since the club members pay a pretty high membership fee I can see why they would want to appease the fanclub while losing sponsors. This is all so disgusting and disappointing though.

I want to know how Johnny’s plans to protect its current talent going forward since the new president is also an alleged predator.

Well if the original owners aka the family line at least lose it and gets bought by another company and rebooted, il take that least. They don't deserve another penny period. We will see.

Anyone scooping up what’s left of Johnny’s at this point would be stock suicide, but especially HYBE. I already thought them getting involved with Scooter/ITHACA was a bad move, and he’s not even a sex pest (at the time of this post), just a bad businessman with penchant for making deals that only benefit him in the long-game.

Unless a buyer were to gut Johnny’s and completely rename and restructure the entire company from the ground up (to what end, you may as well just start your own untainted music label), the only solution I’m seeing is to just burn it all down. Get the talent involved into contracts with other labels or at least compensate them so they can do it themselves, and just shut it all down
