As someone who's up to date with the novel, i would recommend it to those who are seeking a full action oriented adventure without unnecessary romance. The first volume was decent enough but it was the second one that really convinced me.

I wish these "stats/stats screen/exp/levels" will one day be out of all forms of writing. It's a cop-out for creativity and is always lazy.

I got no problem with stat and level screens. They can always be skipped if I want to.

This is a good series, glad is has gotten a review. I think Rebecca nailed the review, happy that others like it too.

There is a manga out on it also, just started not too long ago.

That depends where the stats are used.

For me, if the stats are used in a situation where characters are explicitly playing a VR game like in SAO, Bofuri or Infinite Dendrogram then the stats are OK.

If the stats are nakedly used inside a fantasy world resembling a game without any explanation then I would find that less acceptable, unless they were incorporated organically into the worldbuilding (like Danmachi).

I second. This series is pretty good if you like gamey stuff. It actually does get more interesting volume 2 onwards.

Stat-wise, from the second volume onwards they are mostly shown when the protagonist acquire new summon or at the beginning of a new chapter if some time ellapsed from the precedent one to understand the party/raid progress after valable reason like intensive dungeon farming for weeks. In the first volume they were used more often, however, considering that the reader had yet to understand how his summon work and the fact he was a hardcore gamer who treat this new life as a MMORPG to some extent, it never felt out of place for me.
