Glad to see Pikmin 4 doing well. Nintendo keeps putting out quality, successful titles.

Man Pikmin 4 (just beat it a few hours ago, great game!) beating FF16 in it's first week just shows how bad limiting it to PS5 was. I mean sure the amount of Switch to PS5 is huge but still we are talking about Final Fantasy here.

I guess it would depends how much Sony paid for the exclusivity rights. Although I think I've read Square-Enix already considers it a success given the low amount of PS5s out there.

I personally think they see it as a "marathon" title. At the least they can save face with shareholders with that statement. I'm just glad my niche Nintendo title is selling well because I kinda felt this would be the last one since while it's Miyamoto's baby it never did gangbusters compared to other Nintendo titles and I don't think he'll be at the company much longer and if he is it will be mostly as an adviser/teacher (going by recent video game credits which is somewhat already happening).

It's nice to see Pikmin 4 doing well, although the tutorial is a bit long-in-the-tooth for my liking.

I’m really digging the new Pikmin.
My memory of 3 is really hazy, but can someone comment on how much QOL improvement there is in 4 over 3?
Some of the stuff I really like is:
-The ability to select a point on the map and to have your character walk there automatically. This way, I can navigate without mashing the map button over and over
-The skill upgrade stuff. I’m particularly fond of the one where you can call Pikmin or the dog to your position, although I wish my being near the Pikmin would supersede the order without me having to mash whistle
-The functionality of the dog. I like that they give it a team attack thing you can do that seems functionally distinct from using the horn and how riding it gives you extra mobility options and a way to keep a tight formation. It feels really cool to also be able to do stuff as opposed to just letting your Pikmin do stuff all the time
-A bunch of status indicators if Pikmin are active, passive, outside of the end-of-day safety zone, etc.
It initially seems like they added so much to the gameplay, but I’m not so sure since I last played the last game when it launched on the WiiU, so maybe the stuff I talked about has always been there

I'm sure it'll see a lot more sales numbers once it gets a PC port.

Here we go with the "exclusives are bad for the industry" statements while praising an exclusive (Pikmin) that had a history of doing poorly (100k first week in Japan) on 1 platform until just now thanks to having a breakout on a 29 million install base. You literally contradicted yourself in your post. You weren't saying "just shows how bad limiting it was" about Pikmin back then. Where were you when FFVII Remake sold 700k physical 1st week only on PS4? I know you weren't saying "just shows how bad limiting it to PS4 was". Where were you when FFXV sold 716k physical 1st week only on PS4 on a 3.6 million install base (Famitsu) vs 3.7m PS5 install base (lower due to scalping) while the Xbox version sold 3k (not a typo) 1st week? I know you weren't saying "just shows how bad limiting it to PS4 was". I bet you didn't say "just shows how bad releasing it on more than PS4 was".But that's not all...
Next, you follow it up with "we are talking about Final Fantasy here". The sheer hypocrisy. Yes, it's Final Fantasy, which means there isn't an issue limiting it to PS5 because as history has shown before XVI's release, FF sells over 1 million in Japan 1st week (XV took a month with digital) on PlayStation. As usual, people who know nothing don't see that limiting to PS5 is NOT the issue. The issue is at most 3 things. The first being PS5 software sales in Japan. They are abysmal compared to PS4's software numbers. How can so many people be buying PS5 hardware, but the software isn't decent at minimum? The second is scalping. Scalping was huge on PS5. So much that it's obvious this isn't the true PS5 install base that it raises the question what is the PS5's true install base without scalpers. The third is FFXVI. How about compared to previous FF's, XVI isn't appealing to Japanese consumers. XVI being Cero D (17+) doesn't matter. If people like the game they will buy it regardless of rating. FFVIIR was Cero C (15+) in 2020. Those 15 year olds are Cero D audience now anyway. The reception of XVI since its reveal has been weak. FF is suppose to feel like an event, but XVI never felt like it. Rebirth's recent trailer has more reception than XVI's. You can compare the metrics on Twitter and YouTube, etc. The issue is clearly the game itself.
Almost forgot, if your thought was to release XVI on PC day 1, that was never happening. No numbered FF game (not counting XIV, for example) has released day 1 on PC. And the game wasn't coming to Switch due to hardware. Like you said, "we are talking about FF here". That means it has a history of having the power to release on 1 platform.
Instead of jumping on the "exclusive is bad" train like a bunch of casuals (and especially the ones who hate exclusives overall) do... Do the research (and most importantly, state up to date) before leaving an example of a bad post.
