Design-wise, comparison to the more established duo (we all know which one) is inevitable, isn't it? To the point where I wonder if it's intentional.

Its pretty much intentional. It's the same for their interaction during the first chapters.
However, as soon as the story moves away from the town of beginnings it changes and the story moves on its own legs.
Is is as good as (post progressive) SAO? No. Is it better than the original volumes? Yes.

I read "Berserk," got excited, then remembered this existed and was hit by reality.

Yeah, I agree the SAO was the clear inspiration on the design front. I disagree that the initial character interactions of Fate and Roxy are at all similar, however, even at the beginning, and the presence of Greed certainly changes the dynamics.
For those who have not read the novels, this one feels very much like an isekai tale - including a heavy emphasis on stats and levels - but isn't. It's also a generally darker and more serious tale than most LNs which get adapted.

Ryota Ohsaka and Tomokazu Seki team-up to protect a beautiful lady knight? I might actually check this out.
Dynamic kind of reminds me of Issei and Ddraig from High School DxD.

I just noticed that all the confirmed staff members' family names ends with "-sawa"
Yanagisawa
Kunisawa
Furusawa
I'm aware that the kanji might be different, but I thought this was funny.

RIP, the animation screams mid. Looks like fans are better off with the manga and LN. It's funny hearing Gilgamesh as a sword, though.

It’s decent actually and saying it’s mid is bad enough.

Is this series just a lighter version of Redo of Healer? It says Dark Fantasy on wiki, but is it dark enough?

It's not even remotely close to being in the same vein as Redo of Healer. However, the way the MC's Gluttony skill works has some horror-grade elements to it, and the story has plenty of ugly content besides that. Amongst fantasy anime from the last 20 years, it's probably most tonally similar to Claymore - or, if you want a more recent example, maybe Goblin Slayer.

Claymore? Okay, now I'm interested. Goblin Slayer isn't a far cry either, but I definitely enjoyed Claymore. Thank you =D
