You are completely right, but I will take what I can get.
After the Megumin series I need to see more of those goofballs.

I would argue that's what makes it the ultra tease. They're not promoting the villains, the supporting cast, the arcs for the season. It's just teasing you with the possibility of those four idiots and letting your mind go wild with the mishaps they might get into this time.

I wonder why but since a year or so I noticed more and more of those super / hyper / ultra teaser visual ( 超ティザービジュア ) from different studio announcement without noticing any difference with the usual appellation, maybe an allusion to MHA ?
Anyway see you next year princess Iris !

I'm really worried about this after how underwhelming the Megumin show was. I'm guessing its a case of the anime team for S1/2 was really the reason it worked rather than the source materials and another, not as good, team just can't make it work nearly as well as it did.

YAY!!! The Megumin side story has really whetted my appetite for this... not that it needed much whetting.

No, it's definetily because Megumin just does not work at all as the main driving force of a story without the rest to bounce off of. Yujiro Abe may have taken over the as the new director, but Kanasaki is still involved. And the rest is here too: Uezo, Kikuta, Masato Kouda, Yasumasa Koyama, Saori Yoshida etc. This isn't chalked up to a "not as good team" at all.

Isn't it? Kono suba had so many interesting animation choice throughout its run time that formed the basis for most of the great moment of the show. Yet the Megumin show has almost none, that had nothing to do with the fact that the regular gang wasn't there, that was a choice they made (or a skill they lacked).

The novels this season is based on were much better than the anime.
The first novel in particular was probably my favorite book I've read by this author. Damn near every scene is just them winding each other up until someone gets punched.
This staff seemed to make a conscious decision to soften the humor's edge and make everyone nicer, and the result was that most of the jokes weren't funny any more. I'd argue Kososuba thrives on leaning into how mean the humor is.

Most of these animation choices came for characters like Aqua, not Megumin. And some of the better animators like Shuu Sugita still came back to animate great stuff for this season, so I repeat: it's a problem entirely with the source material. Has nothing to with "lacking a skill".

I wouldn't put all the blame on the novel considering that many scenes were altered in the anime which was also the case for all the others animes based on Akatsuki Natsume's works especially Kemono Michi. Sometimes those changes, subtle or not work, sometimes they don't, in this case i think KonoSuba Bakuen was half-half, I would recommend to those who are left wanting for more to read their original version.

This is just another case where Novels-------->Anime.
