Not sure if I can compete with Mr. 35k up above me, but I enjoyed the film too and also thought it could have worked with more time to breathe. I mean Christ, Sing 1 & 2 were almost two hours long each; they couldn't give such a massive IP a little more runtime? Even the second Sonic film got a full two hours.

I'm guessing because Sing 2 is a musical, it gets more time due to all the musical numbers. Sonic 2, I will admit has some rather boring parts, namely scenes involving the humans. I felt like they could have cut some of the fat from that movie.
I think Mario being short is good, since for me at least. Maybe it could have been longer sure, but I wasn't expecting anything big. Just a great Mario adventure full of fun and that's what I got. Loved it. My favorite film of the year, but that's just my Mario bias, IDK. |

Enjoy the movie wit its many references and plot. Wish it move a little slow in some parts, but overall really good.

Good movie, awesome animation and character designs. I'm glad actual professional voice actors were able to be in the film, like Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Eric Bauza as the Toad General, Scott Menville as the Blue Shell Koopa General, Khary Payton as the Penguin King, Jessica DiCicco as Mario and Luigi's mother, and Charles Martinet's cameo roles were great.
Really wish there could have been more video game inspired original music instead of classic rock/pop music. The songs chosen were good though. Luigi and Toad were underutilized in the story and the overall film runtime. Really want to watch the Japanese dub of the movie later this year. It'd be awesome if on the DVD/Blu-ray/4K release, Japanese is included on the disc for the language options. |

Luigi damsel-in-distress instead of Princess Peach (how are they gonna explain where Koopalings come from )

The amount of Easter Eggs in this movie was just phenomonal. I enjoyed it very much. To be honest, I forgot how Bowser truly was with Peach and I had whispered to my husband that he needed a cold shower. lol
Yet for some reason, I always thought Bowser was a dragon, not a turtle, but (shrugs). The music choices, I think, was more in time with the era the original games came out mixed with some modern stuff and I can honestly say it's a damn improvement over that live action monstrosity. And the fact Peach was more proactive in this and they allowed other characters to have the power ups as well, that was a plus for me. Luigi...spoiler[with that bag of tools he had on him in the Dark Lands, I'm surprised he didn't get his ghost vaccum or something to do something more than hang in a cage. lol ] That blue star thing (I've only advanced so far in the game series, I'm an OG player originally)...that thing was annoying to me. He was a bit coo coo for Coco Puffs. |

The movie had a plot? I must have missed it. |

The kids go "Ewwwww" whenever Bowser sings about Peach
Amazed Nintendo allowed the characters to say "Kill" and "Die"
They went straight into the adventure, without questioning who these new sus humans come from
That's where Koopalings come from
That's for when Luigi gets his own spinoff movie |

Glad to see so many besides me enjoyed it. The prudes over at Rotten Tomatoes seem to dislike it because it's not freakin' Slumdog Millionare or whatever, and this lady seems to have set her expectations too high, but I still loved it.

Spoiler warning about a character in the film:
spoiler[I felt Charles Martinet voicing Mario and Luigi's dad was such nice homage to him for his nearly 30 year career voicing the the brothers.] |

I thought the movie was fine. A bit simple and shallow,, yes, but it's about what I expected from a very safe movie out of Nintendo and Illumination. I would not have seen it if it wasn't for the Mario branding. At the very least, I praise it for not having fart jokes. That puts it above other films of its kind. I don't really see myself watching it again or making it some kind of tradition though unless my kids want to watch it, but I would watch a sequel. Nice references to various stuff without feeling too reliant on them. A few of the self-referential jokes made me groan but overall, not bad.

Yeah, it's pretty much the exact film you'd expect from "Nintendo + Illumination." You don't even need to watch the movie -- or even any of the trailers -- to know exactly what it's like.
I just wish we had a new Mario game to go with it. You'd think Nintendo would be all over that -- this new movie is the biggest advertisement for Mario they've ever had, meanwhile it's been 6 years since the last new mainline Mario game (and a whopping 9 years since the last new Mario Kart). |
