It wont be long till the anime adaption will follow suit.

Give or a take a few more years and once the movie projects are done.

Nope, but Reki Kawahara is someone who try to improve a lot and take the opinion of his fans in mind.

and Unital Ring is his first new writing for SAO LN since 2008 when he published end of Alicization and part of Moon Cradle side story in his webnovel.

So he is being rather ambitious with trying to cover and develop all of the cast of character and give them all their own time to shine... one of the things a lot of the fans asked for in opposition to his earlier arcs where he usually focus more on ~2 character in each new Arc and kind of have more of a isolated plot going on with them.

I'm personally a big fan of this approach, but it make the Arc just so much more complicated and take so much more time to finish lol

there is both the Unital Ring Game plot and mystery and well as it's hints and connection to the SAO Progressive plots.
And there is also the Underworld plot which is still going at the same time too.
Each having their own cast and strong moments.

like even if Kirito & Asuna are in UW in one Volume, we still have Klein/Agil/Agil's wife/Yui/Sinon/Selka/Liz/Argo etc etc in UR for half of that volume lol

So long story short, I think this Arc is only around mid-way of finishing lol
So 4~8 more volume is left to finish lol

I honestly don't think it's possible to ever finish it under 4 more volume and even that might be rushed most likely lol

I wasn't expecting the manga adaption to hit before the anime did but I guess it's easier to get it out first.

I'm wondering if they'll stop soon knowing the current release state...and the fact that they kind of canceled the Alicization manga to begin with.

Wait, did they really cancel it? I assumed they'd go back to finish it like what happened with Phantom Bullet.

I never understood why they never ever invested for any real SAO manga project xD

It's not that SAO manga can't be popular or on going... but their planning, artist, timing, promotion all kind of sucks badly. it is very very clear, that whoever is planning these things, have other goals and is not thinking about a long term manga plan.

for example, they split the SAO Manga into tens of pieces... each Arc have its own artist, and for Progressive... except the first 3 floor being 1 artist, after that each Floor have their own artist.

And non of the artist are really popular ones, they are with the exception of 1 of them the rest are always new artist with little to no previous work, just starting or hentai artists that are making a debut as normal artist...

as for Unital Ring Manga, it should be fine and keep on going until :

#1 The Artist decide to go work on his/her own project after getting more popular thanks to his SAO (it happened before)

#2 The Unital Ring Anime Surpass the Manga and the demand for the Manga drop too low (which is probably 1 of the reason Alicization Manga went on indefinite hiatus, the other being the artist being busy with many project)
