Well this is a surprise. If there's a second season, then the upcoming episode's conclusion is most likely a cliffhanger to lead into the second season.
As it stands, there were too many unanswered questions for a single season to answer. It's been entertaining so far, so a second season would help close the loop.

Agreed, I was kind of expecting this since the season could not possible tie up the many plots it still has going in one more episode.

This has been one of my favorites this season even though it seems like no one in US anime fandom is watching it so I'm glad it's getting a s2. I imagine it was probably already decided to be a split cour show.

Yay! This was the surprise of the season for me, warts and all, so I'm happy it doesn't end here. It was kind of obvious that they were shooting for a second season (considering the number of characters introduced) but it's good to see that this second season is going to happen.
