Very sad. I REALLY hope that Sakurai-san will soon get new roles. It was such a big mistake of him. I wish him good luck!

I wonder if he's going to continue as Cloud going forward? I really doubt they'd change so late. It's the only one of his characters I'm familiar with outside of Crow from Trails who was also heavily hinted to return for Kuro 3 which they might end up changing their minds on Confused

What? You know full well what he did was wrong (animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3183874), yet you still continue to wish him the best? As talented as he is, that alone does NOT make him exempt from punishment. When will you ever accept reality?

Yes, I know it, don't forget that it is WORK and NOT HIS PERSONAL LIFE. He ALWAYS do the work greatly. I don't understand what punishment do you want from Sakurai. He didn't kill anyone. And you are not a judge so keep your opinion in you, thanks.

It's not quite as simple as this.
1. Sure, he didn't kill anyone, and technically I'm not sure he's even done anything punishable by law. Regardless, lying to someone and leading them on for ten years is in a very different league from having a one-night stand with a fan or putting his foot in his mouth in an interview or something. It can't really be treated as "OK it was a mistake, but we're all human" because again - ten years.

2. Sure, it's about his personal life, except he basically revealed himself as an enormous douche, and that's something that is usually not good for business. Make no mistake, what is happening now is not really about "punishing" Sakurai - that's part of it, but on a more cynical side it's productions and franchises distancing themselves from someone who's been revealed as kind of toxic and not being in potential customers' favor right now. Just how someone may feel uncomfortable reading or watching media created by or starring people who have been revealed as subscribing to toxic ideologies, it's the same with being uncomfortable watching a character talking in the voice of someone who has been revealed to have done something really vile.

So yeah, all the jobs he's losing right now is about the copyright holders realizing they shouldn't associate their product with him, at least for the time being. Whether this will be treated as per the usual procedure (the culprit lying low for a few months while tabloids try to squeeze the scandal to the last click, then the whole thing getting kurorekishi'd and everyone acting as if nothing happened) is to be seen, but honestly the whole "ten years, holy crap" aspect of it makes me suspect that in this case it may be handled more seriously. It sucks because Sakurai is an amazing seiyuu, but it's fully his own fault and he has no-one to blame but himself, because to repeat - ten years. He's been in the business forever, he knew what he was risking.

You're right that no one died here, but did you forget that Sakurai's actions literally COULD have resulted in someone dying from shock? His actions don't just affect his job opportunities, they also affect the people who were close to him. I'm sure nearly every seiyuu and anyone else he's ever worked with over the years is feeling some form of betrayal after finding out what kind of person he really is. And it's pretty clear to me that no one wants to work with a scumbag like him now.

So please, do me a favor and stop fellating him already.

Erm. Cheating is not something you should admire but it is not illegal. He did not beak any law or contract rules (unlike Suzuki), he did not assaulted or abused anyone either. Yes, he is the horrible guy to be in relationships with but it is not the thing you should be cancelled for.

Well, he may not have assaulted any of them, but the way he manipulated them and the fall-out could border on abuse. He wasn't just sleeping with multiple women (without the others knowing), he was going unprotected. Including encouraging (pestering?) for them to let him have sex without the condom even when asked.

And given the woman from his radio show did have a mental breakdown, that's pretty bad. He wasted who knows how many womens' lives, and if he got any of them pregnant, really, could have destroyed their lives. It's very severe for a case of cheating, and these are only with the women we know have spoken out so far.

As for the role, I like Toriumi better and feel he has a better range, so this isn't a loss to me. The only role I might at all miss Sakurai in is Cloud, and sadly, I don't see Square Enix caring enough about what he did to drop him, even though there's probably other seiyuu that could provide an equally good or better Cloud.

It wasn't "just" cheating. He quite literally ruined peoples' lives.

Having a lover on the side would've been scummy enough, but the poor woman thought she was his legal wife. Not only he lied to his actual wife, Sakurai also tricked an innocent woman to the point she has to be hospitalized after finding the truth.

That's disgusting on so many levels, calling him trash human being is being offensive to trash

Are you blind? I never once stated or implied that cheating is illegal. However, that doesn't change the fact that Sakurai is still losing roles because of what he did. Even if he himself is choosing to walk away from his roles and it's not the choice of the producers, it's blatantly obvious that he must feel as if he's not wanted anymore.

And since you too need to be reminded of a certain harsh truth, cheating IS a form of abuse, ESPECIALLY if he's been doing it for over a literal DECADE. Abuse isn't just physical. How is that not obvious to you at all?

You DON'T KNOW what is he, you don't know him personally, so don't make any conclusions. I repeat: HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING RELATED TO HIS JOB. Yes, he slept with another woman, he is not the last sadly. But is it the reason to cancel his future and give away his current roles? Of course not. It is absurd.

The other woman was literally an employee that he had power over. That makes it job related. It means he cannot be trusted in the workplace and should come of no surprise that means he will no longer be employed in places where that type of misconduct has the chance to do further damage.

Sadly you are right. I still hope that in some time it will be forgotten. Anyway Sakurai replied on one interview that he can also work in fish shop. He is a great worker.

He had an affair with the chief writer of his radio programme that lasted over a decade and involved him effectively convincing her that she is his wife on every level except legal. The resulting blowout resulted in the program shutting down, the woman he had an affair with permanently retiring from the industry in shame and literally everyone involved with the program losing their jobs.

So yes, he did do something related to his job and it harmed multiple people and their careers. To argue otherwise is laughable and embarrassing.
