Totally disagree with the reviewer on the cons of this movie. How does a movie thats adapted from the same source as the anime supposed to feel different than a regular episode?!! And in the first place how does feeling like a "regular Kaguya-sama episode" even a criticism when the show is arguably one of the best shows, if not the best, of past 10 years? And then, whats with this nonsense about wanting to have Chika cgaracter development?! Thats mere projection of your own feelings which don't have any substantial ground to stand on.

I get it that a review is supposed to be an opinion but some opinions are just not good, and this right here is a prime example.

It's not unreasonable to expect an elevated experience from a theatrical feature. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya certainly managed it.

You’re complaing about the reviewer projecting and doing literally the same thing.

How does the quality of the anime mitigate criticisms towards the movie?

DragonBall Z was one of the biggest animes of the 80’s and 90’s that doesn’t mean the movies that were made as consequence of said popularity weren’t superfluous.

Demon Slayer is one of the biggest anime of this generation hasn’t stopped criticisms of Mugen Train being overrated and something that couldn’t have just been adapted outright instead of being turned into an unnecessary movie.

Unfortunately, because of the state of the anime industry, it has become kind of the norm for anime movies (specifically movie tie-ins) to feel more like just extended episodes than actual movie experiences - Mugen Train, Quintessential Quintuplets, Takagi-san, Yuru Camp, and now this.

It will be interesting ro see if we get more kaguya after this. Personally, I found this arc to be the last absolute winner that the manga has to offer. It got pretty uneven after this arc and the ending was a pretty meh

Also worth remembering that watching a movie in cinemas costs more than TV or a streaming service subscription. When you have to pay $20+ a ticket, then yes, it is reasonable to want a more impressive experience than what you would get on TV.

I feel like you are projecting onto me what you want me to have said, rather than what I actually did say. While you used quotation marks, I never called it a "regular Kaguya-sama episode." Here's what I did say:

Quote:
"On the visual side of things, this film doesn't feel like one. Rather it looks just like a normal episode of the TV show."

I wasn't talking about the story or the characters. I was talking solely about the visual presentation--the quality of the art and animation. And yes, when I spend $20 or more to see a movie in theaters, I expect it to have higher visual quality--especially since putting a TV image on a movie screen without increasing the resolution makes the image inevitably look worse.

Damn, I'd never pay that much for a ticket, lol. They're $5 to $10 where I'm at. $10 is for like 3D IMAX and whatnot. Popcorn and drinks cost more than the tickets around here, lol. So I guess they get us in the end with that one, lol.

You must not live in a major city, then. They average around $15 for Seattle, where I live. Richard lives in Tokyo, where movie tickets cost 1800 yen.

For another data point, I live in Houston (which has lower land prices than a lot of places), and I just checked on Fandango for the price of an adult ticket tomorrow night at the nearest theater -- $14.12, and that theater doesn't have free parking. Most comparisons I can find online say that Japan ranks pretty high on average ticket price, and significantly higher than the US (though I did find one pandemic-era one that put the US higher).

EDIT: A standard ticket for Avatar, without 3D or high frame rate, was even higher, at $16.28.

Question:

In the anime, after Kaguya tells Ayazaka she frenchkissed Shorogane, Ayazaka just smiles and the series ends.

In the manga, they have a long discussion that triggers the events of the movie.

How did they fix this?

I mean, the anime skips over half manga anyways, but I don't see how this specific conflict can work without that conversation.

Answer:

The movie starts with that conversation.

Most efficient course of action I suppose.

Thanks.

Would love to go see this but I wish it had more release dates than the middle of the week.

The AMC nearest where I live recently added late-night screenings on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18–19) due to demand. I would check availability again at your local theater.
