Oh, man, I knew it was a good idea to just leave my BDs for the first season on the shelf.
I simply cannot handle unfinished Adachi stories. |

Considering the pace of the manga, which was on hiatus for most of 2020, it's not likely to complete with this season. Although he was making jokes in the pages about mangas with slow pacing needing to get going so they don't lose the interest of their readers. So, maybe he decided to turbo-charge it since I last read it? ...doubtful. The manga was in "second-year" stories when I last read it, and they usually involve a big 3rd-year Koshien concluding plot. Although, one of Adachi's idiosyncrasies is to wrap up the interpersonal stories without needing to show the Koshien finales. Mix has never quite had the heart of his other series, but I still think it'll get 3 seasons of anime. ...unless they just give up, like they did with the never completed H2 (anime never completed- the manga, his longest, was). |

Yes! I will wait for the second season to end, watch it both and then start reading the original manga.

Good luck. I just tried to search for what I haven't read, and discovered that my usual go-to places stopped after Chp.93, but randomly also have Chp. 110... don't know if I wan to look at it without the 16 in between.
...Dang it, I read 110, and it p---ed me off. I was SURE Adachi was not going to do it this time- was SURE he set this up so it was all in the back story... but it's a habit he just can't break, an itch he MUST scratch. Even if it doesn't serve any new purpose.... he's just gotta spoiler[kill somebody. No reason to do it. It's just so characters are sad about something other than losing a game.]. Seemingly as pointess as the one in H2. Since the chapters are missing, I don't know if they set it up... but if the anime reaches this point, they should just skip it- don't indulge this bad habit! |

Part of the reason for my rule (and I apply it to the manga, too) is that I don't think you can really get a sense of the "heart" of an Adachi manga until the ending. Like Niji Iro Togarashi is one of my all-time favorites (just under Katsu!) but it doesn't really all come together until the final chapter or two. Re: H2, I thought the anime had an original ending, didn't it? I didn't watch very much of it (too time-consuming). I remember liking the live action adaptation, though I was probably too young at the time to have much of a sense of taste. I've heard the Touch anime also veered off into a different ending, though I don't remember how, exactly. Which is just kinda weird 'cause I'm sitting here thinking: Adachi's endings are one the best parts! |

I don't think the H2 anime had an original ending. It covers like 1/4 of the manga in 41 episodes and wasn't including enough humor, so I think they just decided not to continue it. I just can't stand the standard mugging in Japanese comedic TV series, so couldn't get through the 1st episode of the LA version. The manga rates about 3 in my list (go to the page before for more short reviews). I believe the Touch series ends faithful to the manga, but they made sequel movies that continue Tatsuya's story as he plays in Central America and the United States. They're done well, but are a slight disservice to the manga ending... But looking at my review of it- I guess I had a slight problem with it. I guess I never thought they properly moved on. Didn't love Niji Iro Togarashi. Only read it once but the couple's chemistry just wasn't there for me. I can't really remember the end. |
