Wow. Never thought Re:Cutie Honey would ever get licensed.

This is the one where Yui Horie voices Honey. (^-^)

I have the old DVD set from Japan, but it'll be nice to have it with subtitles and a (hopefully) cleaner BD image.

Nanoha reflection. Nice. I still have the geneon dvds and that would be a welcome addition.

Discotek really went all out on Re: Cutie Honey, Jessica Calvello reprising the role was pretty obvious, but I thought all the other characters who had appeared in Universe(the only recent Cutie Honey dub) would be played by different actors. Yet David Wald is back as both ADR Director and Dr. Takeshi Kisaragi and Marissa Lenti as Sister Jill.

Though I'm confused on why certain actors have returned but are now playing different characters, Brett Weaver not playing Akira(as he did in Shin Cutie Honey)makes some sense as the character is younger here and Brett doesn't play those characters, Bryn Apprill though could play an older Natsuko Aki and Seiji Hayami is exactly the same so it's strange that Scott Gibbs is not reprising the role. Still nice seeing LA and Texas actors mixing, even if that is nothing new at this point.

Great to see Sonic on DVD or Blu-Ray, it would be nice if SEGA would pony up the money for a uncut English dub, but that seems less and less likely.

Wayne Grayson playing Seiji is a callback to his role as the character in the NYAV live action movie dub. Same for Erica Schroeder as Scarlet Claw.

Man, April is going to be stacked in terms of releases I want. And here I thought buying at least one title a month from January-March was impressive!

Re: Cutie Honey is an exciting get! I believe that just leaves Flash as far as the anime adaptations go? I'll be sure to pick that up.

Also happy Medarots is finally coming. Really hope their sub releases of it, Shaman King and Sonic X sell well because I'd love to see more localized edited dubs get Japanese version releases.

And this one should have happened sooner when Eleven Arts had it screened in theaters.

It was one of the rare cases at that time where they only had theatrical rights.

First set is 5 discs with 50 episodes. The other sets will be 4 discs. Source: Their Twitch Q&A.

The article forgot to mention the licensing of the French-American co-production of The Legend of Calamity Jane. Despite the fact that it isn’t anime and that it isn’t based on a Japanese franchise, it was announced by Discotek during their live stream.

That's nothing new for them, as they have released a few other non-Japanese animated shows. Like Street Sharks. What is odd is that there was a Kickstarter to release The Legend of Calamity Jane on DVD along with a comic, and the most recent update from a few weeks ago said they were pressing the DVDs (so it isn't an abandoned project), so that is the odd thing about this one.

I think they mentioned that the original BD for this show (unless I am mistaking this comment for another show) used really poor upscaling, so they returned to the SD masters to upscale with the more modern AstroRes technology.

If anyone is wondering why they use SDBD for some SD shows when they have AstroRes, they explained that if the master is inconsistently interlaced, then they can't get a clean enough deinterlaced image out of it to upscale. So, it's better to release it as is in SD.

Discotek, as was said before, has been expanding somewhat into Western cartoons and live-action, which fits their reputation as “the guys that license shows you’ve seen clips of on YouTube and nowhere else.” Calamity Jane though is especially obscure given the other cartoons they licensed was the syndicated Sonic cartoon (the comedy one with Urkel as Sonic), the legendarily cheesy Double Dragon cartoon (which ran for two seasons) and Street Sharks. This is stuff no one would be able to see otherwise.

That’s a welcome sight, but compared to Re: Cutie Honey and GGG Final it’s a relatively minor one.

Were there licensing issues around Re: Cutie Honey?

I'm glad to be able to own it, but it seems a little strange that it wasn't licensed until now.
Other Cutie Honey productions have been available for years, and for the franchise, Re seems like one of the more marketable / less expensive to produce releases due to its short length and Hiroyuki Imaishi's involvement

I'm also looking forward to more Kodocha, though largely just for nostalgia and a desire for completeness.

Brady wanted to include as many of the original actors from previous Honey/Go Nagai dubs as possible. Discotek did something similar with a recent Fist of the North Star dub.

Brett Weaver plays a character similar to Akira in Re: Cutie Honey while Bryce Papenbrook voices Akira's proper cameo appearance. You get two Akiras for the price of one!

Personality-wise, Seiji is a little bit different here so that's probably why they had Wayne Grayson come back. Scott Gibbs has a minor cameo. Bryn Apprill was cast as Honey's co-worker Mayumi probably because her design is very similar to Natsuko's in Universe.

I think it was really neat they had Christine Auten voice Honey's co-worker Rinko. "Rinko Terada" was the name of an actress in the Cutie Honey 90's manga who played Kekko Kamen. Auten voiced Kekko Kamen in the ADV dub back in the early 2000's.

A lot of love was put into this new dub!
