Wait, is it common practice for an anime to be recording dialogue this close to an episode's airing? Her final episode in the role of Nika is less than a week away, so her replacement's debut is less than two weeks away. I suppose we have no way of knowing the exact situation, or how long she suffered before making a public statement, but as I'm unfamiliar with the nitty gritty of anime development, this story grabbed my attention.
Best of luck to you, Yume Miyamoto. I hope your health improves soon! |

I think with anime, they record before the series premieres. It's unfortunate having to step away from a role, but the seiyuu's health is more important. So, all the best for a speedy recovery.

they said she started feeling unwell since late october,so the replacement probably started recording for Nika since at least a month ago. |

Haruka Shiraishi is great, but it sucks they had to do this.
Hopefully (if Nika is still alive by then) Miyamoto-san can come back in the second cour. |

It's far better than how the West does (kill off characters instead of replacing the voice talent).

Not entirely. The only way a character is killed off is if the actor/actress passes away. In some cases, the character will be recast. |

Yes, unless anime production pipelines have changed in the last few years, voice recording is still one of the last things to be done. Source: animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2017-12-11/.125115 |

Well, this is not the first time they killed a character in a Gundam series because of voice acting related problems; they killed Nicol Amarfi in Gundam SEED because her original VA retired from voice acting. |

There's no rule, it depends on character and franchise. Usually the character is recast, especially if they're popular. Even in Gundam Bright Noah was recast even though they could have just left him out of various stories after Suzuoki Hirotaka's death. Same with Rurouni Kenshin's Saitou Hajime. Meanwhile in the Legend of the Galactic Heroes OVA series spoiler[Tomiyama Kei died not long after his character died in the story, and even though he was supposed to appear as flashbacks/etc. they cut and/or reworked all those scenes out of respect for Tomiyama, so the character doesn't speak again in the series. However, they recast the character for the side story series, where he was voiced by Gouda Hozumi.] Re: G-Witch, what I'm wondering about is whether they'll have Shiraishi record Nika's lines for previous episodes - it's not much so far, so it may be worth doing it for the sake of consistency. |
