Matsuoka as the hero is kinda unsurprising lol.

Unironically, being not type-casted as harem main or typical MC is where Matsuoka shines - he's good at playing psychos (Petelguese, Majima, Philip), or even not serious roles like Inosuke or one of the Cid friends in The Eminence in Shadow.

He's back in his natural habitat.
Akarin train continues. Funny that Kaori isn't voiced by Kaori.

Yep, exactly. But I presume that roles are not as good for the career.

Nah, if anything, that's just type-casting by the people who are in charge of voice casting, considering his fame for this roles - and Matsuoka himself is not even pushed as the idol-type seiyuu, especially with his looks. Something like Mamoru Miyano or Jun Fukuyama, which personalities are clashing with the usual casts of romantic interests or serious roles, but they absolutely nail it when it comes to comedy.

As far as I recall, Matsuoka himself said that he tries to voice less harem protagonists these days.

The concept of dodging back and forth between worlds and girls in both worlds reminds me of a early 90's (maybe even 80's) British daytime show about a fellow who could travel between modern day Britian and ... probably 1940's or 50's (or maybe even 20's) Britian. By doing so he maintained 2 relationships in different time periods and sold artefacts from earlier days in the modern times and masqueraded as an intelligence officer using his future knowledge in the past.
I will be curious to see if the isekai elements of this show will be cheats to bypass needed writing details or used to spice the show and character up as the better ones do.

Matsuoka back to his usual typecast, though now he's got Akarin and Kaori Maeda after him!

Goodnight Sweetheart featuring Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney from Only Fools And Horses), it was between the 1990s and WWII era Britian. In his case though it was pretty obvious that his "waifu" was the girl in his past because he seemed to mostly neglect his actual wife from his "home time" of the 1990s.

Thats it well done! And yes his modern day wife was, I guess, what you would call frumpy. Reserved traditional and demanding leading him to abandon her for his mistress in the past until he started missing home.
