Back when Anno’s Shin Godzilla came out I really wanted a follow-up but now I’m happy they waited and the next thing will likely be it’s own thing or a start of something new. Shin was really cool but probably works better as a one -off

I just want a kaiju fight, but I suppose that's too much to ask.

I'm excited for this. Yamazaki has done some great work with the recent Lupin III movie and personally speaking, the live action Space Battleship Yamato. I think he gets the properties he's working with so I hope with Godzilla he'll be able to satisfy the crowd looking for city destruction, as well as something more meaningful and relevant for everyone else.

Hopefully it will be more interesting than Hollywood's efforts. Few of the original Japanese productions are as ambitious as the original or Shin, but most were always more entertaining and better constructed. It'll be lovely to see another Japanese production, because I think western takes on Godzilla and Tokusatsu style properties have always felt like they've missed the mark.

Unless there's some serious soul searching I don't think Hollywood will ever make a genuinely good Godzilla movie. There's a level of accountability that I don't see happening for America to 'get' Godzilla.
