Unfortunately the author has not released any new volumes of Hidden World in Japan since Vol 1, which originally came out in May 2020.

That's disappointing. The review intrigues me enough that I'll probably go ahead and add it to my (constantly growing) want-to-read ANN list, but I'll probably hold off on actually getting it until more volumes are released.
On that note, I have no idea what a healthy release schedule looks like for the average light novel. Is 2 years a long time between volume releases?

Yes, although hardly unheard of. LNs adapted from web novels tend to release up to four books a year, and even LNs with nothing to draw on tend to release at least one book a year (often two or more, especially if they have spinoffs or side-story collections).

That's unfortunate... sounds like a promising story, but im not sure it's really worth investing in if it's not going to continue. Especially considering...
