I thought I'm gonna resort to sailing the seven seas to watch this but oh f*ckin yes! Can't wait to watch this in cienamas once it reaches Australia in December.

I don't super follow screenings, but usually it isn't for deep down the rabbit hole stuff like this, right? All the ones I hear about are usually some shonen action series. An interesting choice to say the least.

"Deep down the rabbit hole"? This series is extremely popular. It's beyond meme-level hype train shows like Chainsaw Man in terms of sheer numbers. It's about 80% of a Spy x Family. It's got a higher viewership than every anime that used to air on Toonami back during its heyday when it ran every day starting right when kids were getting home from school with the exception of Dragon Ball Z. It's, statistically speaking, the #2 most watched harem romcom of all time after Nisekoi, and it's more highly rated by fans and critics overall than that one (and that one doesn't have a movie).
By the way, they put plenty of non-"shonen action series" movies in theaters outside of Japan. If anything, those are the minority.
