The dog's back is displayed prominently. Could it be important to the plot?

Infinity Train doesn't own the concept of trains, see Night on the Galactic Railroad

Why, why is it cute anime schoolgirls again? Can these people seriously not think in any terms other than "cute schoolgirls"? (OK, there's the advanced variation: "add a couple of boys, but then it's gotta be romance, also they still must be wearing school uniforms.") It's just so infinitely, overbearingly boring and derivative and rote, at this point this could be the best damn story ever written, but just looking at the visuals makes me completely tune out.

(And yes, I'm very familiar with Mizushima's works, no need to lecture me about anything, we all know what I'm talking about here.)

I hear complaints like this daily, there's a reason for this and that's the state of the industry; it is made by otaku for otaku (other areas of Japanese media are the same way), the old guard and the variety it brought is either aging, retired, or sadly dead. The working conditions also make it nearly impossible for non-otaku to even work in the anime industry.

Do you have a problem with female protagonists or something?

Yes, that is exactly what I was saying. Exactly. Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

I have, but it was presumably influenced by the japanese short story Galactic Railroad from the 30's, so I didn't mention it. The idea that "cosmic trains" as the other poster put it where invented in the 2010s/2020s by the author of infinity train is patent. And so is the idea the creators of this anime were influenced by Infinity Train.

I guess I'll be the one to say it... thats the Butt and back of the legs that we're seeing for the dog, not its back. Its back would be where its spinal cord is which would be where its belly is which is ofc, the long part of its body that separates its front and back legs. So.. what we're prominently seeing is its butt and butt hole, joy... so hopefully that isn't a hint at the anime being bad... I can't tell if it'll be good or bad but the tagline for it sure doesn't inspire any confidence and leans a bit more towards (Esp if we believe the butt is a plot point...) a bad or unsatisfactory anime story... I'd caution everyone though to wait till we know more, if u still plan to watch give it the 1-3 eps (As close to 3 eps as possible) rule b4 continuing or dropping it.

This is incorrect. I recall reading Answerman years back that the reason Schools and School kids (Girls AND boys) is so prominent (Less so these days compared to when the question was asked I'll add) is due to the mind set and work force of Japan itself. In short, death march work and stay out drinking with ur boss and coworkers and social obligations and such. As such, those who live in japan recall a time when they had some lv of freedom becus now as adults, they rarely have a day off. Their freedom is limited and so, they recall a time when they used to have that freedom. When was some of their best moments of freedom? In high school! (Or whatever thats called in Japan lol) And thus, a lot of stories involving school and school kids ets made. Ofc also due to it likely selling well but its less catering to Otaku and more just selling becus its good/pops. Also, anyone can be an Otaku, if u love soemthing that much u'r an Otaku in that feld. E.g. u love Trains and are obsessed with em? U'r a train otaku. Video games? Video game otaku. And so on.

Lastly, while its true far as am aware and have read that a lot of people (Prolly most) love anime and or the field of work they are in, this does NOT make them Otaku and its wrong to call them such much less make the claim that its made by Otaku for Otaku when thats far from the truth. And yes, as u said the working conditions make it difficult for anyone to work in the field, but that doesn't just go for the anime industry. (Death marches in corporate jobs for example...)
