Holy carp (pun intended), not only Splatoon 3 had the biggest launch for a Switch game in Japan, it also had the biggest launch for any game in that region. It beat the previous record-holder, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. We also have to consider that the previous game that opened above 2 million units were RPGs like Pokémon Black/White, Final Fantasy VIII and Dragon Quest IX and VIII, but Splatoon is a third-person shooter, not to mention that the series is not even 10 years old.
Another fun fact, it seems like Splatoon 3 has sold more than all PS5 games combined in Japan. Physically and digitally. |
