you can finally play as Baoh

"Finally"? People have been playing as him ever since the original All-Star Battle on PS3 back in 2013, as he was a DLC character in that game. While R does add in some legit brand new characters to the game, like Speedwagon, it also just includes all of the DLC cast from the start, like Baoh.

Really, my main question is about the localization itself. The original ASB's translation was filled with all manner of pop culture references that wound up becoming beloved (or at least memorable) to fans, like Joseph saying "You're tearing me apart, Lisa Lisa!" for his win quote against his teacher, or the always brilliant "Time to perform some dishonest acts at a fair and reasonable price!" when it came to D4C/Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (also, "No one knows what this mysterious abbreviation means", which is hilarious).

Does ASB R maintain the same localization, or did Bandai Namco decide to play things more straight this time around?

I do wish it would have some music from the show, English voices or rollback netcode but Bandai Namco often goes cheap on their releases, so I will also be cheap and wait for a sale Razz

First, let's address the elephant in the room before we begin....Long and hard have the many arguments establishing not the preference but the necessity of decent rollback for fighting games, and that any fighting game release without it this late in the game is simply inexcusable.

Thanks for addressing this first off. I made a comment back in the Ultimax review on here that I truly didn't understand why the reviewer was talking about rollback as if it was some "fancy" and "vaunted" special thing for special fighting games, so it's good to see it addressed in this review as the fair and true criticism it is.

Okay. With that out of the way: how 'bout them JoJos?

Yee this isn't a game I plan to play online or get competitive at. This is a game imma play on the couch with my buddies and have a great time.
I do hope they add DLC and keep adding even more whacky character picks too.

They played it far more straight this time around, and it seems a lot of the REAL meme translations are gone and replaced with proper localizations of the scenes.

Here's an easy one, Jolyne's level 1 super. "How many catches can I make? 1000!"
In the original All Star Battle localization it used to say "How deep can I go? Balls deep."

Not surprising, honestly, but it's not exactly a deal breaker for me. That OG translation was just enjoyable in how zany those references got.

How are the load times on this version? I remember the original being pretty egregious.

I own both Original & R and can confirm the loading is faster on the VS screen in the PS4 version.
