Not really illiteracy that’s localizing more like. Which would be obvious by the fact this is called “Knights Of The Zodiac” and not Saint Seiya. Lastly with the fact the character is being played by a Caucasian actress and not a Japanese actress you wouldn’t call her Saori anyway not unless you want a repeat of Scarlett Johannson playing Motoko Kusanagi. |

Saori is Caucasian. She is the reincarnation of Goddess Athena and was born in Greece. She is named Saori only because she was adopted by a Japanese tourist after the failed assassination attempt against her when she was a few months old.
As for Sienna, it is her US name since Saint Seiya first airing in the US on Cartoon Network under the name of Knights of the Zodiac in 2003 as well as the name used in the US version of the manga. |

I'm more concerned about them using 'Nero' instead of Ikki unless its a completely new character that just happens to share the name as the CG show character. It makes me scared that this'll be based on the CG show rather than the manga if I'm being honest.
A new character could easily replace Ikki and his role in the Galaxian War/Black Saint arc although it would change up the dynamic a bit. Could even make more sense in that case if they still wanted to save Ikki's first big appearance for a sequel and just have the film focus on the original four. I think the Saori/Sienna stuff is largely fine to be honest. She's got the whole adoption thing as a decent justification for why the name would be the way it is (They could even use both if they wanted.) |

I think it may have been too far in to change the names, but the fact that the Toei president flat out admitted that the CG series made a lot of mistakes (and Kuramitsu helped to smooth things over after those mistakes were made) leads me to believe that it won't be based on that CG series outside of said names.
