So is this a prequel, a remake or an alternate timeline thingy?

It can't be a remake, considering that the first anime is not the original. I think it's supposed to be a story set before the main story starts, or an alternate timeline. It's got to be either of those, otherwise they can't have Wolfwood and Legato, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to leave out Wolfwood and Legato.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned the most important takeaway from this interview is that Nightow is involved with the script. That's a good thing.

No Imahori then? Sad At least put HT somewhere in there.

I'm hoping that someday we will get a Trigun Maximum adaptation, with Imahori involved.

Darn, not as lengthy as I was hoping and a couple of weaksauce questions. Still, I'm glad to get some more info on it.

"Vash is coming" definitely must mean a whole new thing. Not what I wanted, but I'll accept it in lieu of 12 years thinking "I loved Badlands Rumble but the Trigun market probably isn't big enough for us to ever get another animated Trigun."

Glad to be proven wrong.

The original anime had some of the greatest guitar work I've heard anywhere, period. Just brilliant in places. I hope this can do it justice, but it's a hard act to follow.
