Honestly....game devs need stop giving "launch dates".
It just annoys people more than anything.
when u think games done say it'll launch next month.
simple.

Then, no one will know it's coming out. Sales will not meet expectations, and retailers will drop price. It becomes a very slippery slope to the company just failing because of the lack of sales.
I know it is aggravating, but delays happen. No one wants a company to release an unfinished game. See: No Man's Sky for reference. Even if they finish or improve it later on, the initial sales will tank any future projects.
I'm willing to wait for this game.

Yeah a 3-month heads-up is definitely necessary at the very least. Not just for the devs, publishers and marketing teams but also for the consumer.
Some people like or need to plan in advance. You can't just buy everything and spend your time on everything at once. So if you're someone who likes striking when the iron is hot, as in playing something at launch when there's most activity about it online and among your peers, then having merely a month between knowing when it's coming out and it actually coming out often just won't be enough.
Especially if you're somewhat low on money and have to maybe even save up a little for a full-priced game (an overpriced 80€ release at that... still can't get over how ridiculous that is)

Sounds like Sony said 'don't release this game around God of War.'

I will be honest, I don't think that matters at all. The problem is that once a date is set, expectations are as well. While no development will have it as horrendous as Duke Nukem Forever, their is something to be said about presenting something to consumers something that is tangible and setting expectations for delivery of a project.

Delays do happen, that is why putting up a date without a caveat is so bad. What is happening here is a management problem not so much as a issue with consumer expectations. Square has developed games more than once, the same can be said with facing consumers. They know the development team and the milestones they are at... and they are the ones that set the expectations as the Publisher. Maybe this game is worth the delay, I hope so... but bad management can effect allot and I, for one, am not about to excuse it.

With the luck Square has had with some of their new IPs it’s far more likely they made such a decision on their own.

By that same logic there should be some expectations that even if something has a release date that there is no 100% guarantee it will come out and no guarantee it will come out on the new date either.

Hmm, personally, when I see the words “extra polish”, that reads to me as PR speak for “we need more time to optimize the game and squash a lot of bugs.” Which, hey, I’m all for.

I like having release dates- yes its irritating when information changes, but I like to plan out and budget my gaming purchases and time. Release dates help do that.
As for this game particularly..."Extra polish" is something I'm hard pressed to argue with, but that could mean anything from additional bug squashing to mechanics not working properly. Or not really wanting to compete with a blockbuster. I've not got any real expectations for the game, so we shall see.

I have a feeling that no one cares about this game.
