Weren't the first 3 episodes supposed to be a compilated recap?

I remember them saying it was the first 2 episodes that were recaps. So it seems like they want to get the recap and first episoder proper out all at once. Which I definitely appreciate. |

I'm assuming it's the sub only, which is a slight shame, but this is cool still

What exactly are the episodes supposed to be recapping? I haven't kept up with news outside of ANN and I don't remember them mentioning any recap episodes.
Will they recap the main RWBY series? |

The official AMA from the English writers said "Volumes 1 and 2", but fans suspect it will probably be a truncated version with only the relevant scenes, like the parts where spoiler[Weiss and Blake fight about the White Fang] or where spoiler[Weiss is jealous of Ruby for being the leader]. |

So is this series just supposed to be a redo of the series? I mean it could use it and it would hopefully follow closer to what Monty Oum was wanting and NOT the bastardization that Rooster Teeth created.

Yes the series, and the world of animation, took a huge hit with his too early passing...But- Monty Oum creating the action scenes with two writers working the story around those scenes worked with Red v Blue but not so much with RWBY's narrative mess. (the not few one-off characters Monty kept creating didn't help ). |

This is going to be very interesting to see the reactions to given the implications it's a one-and-done, but also to many, it's how RWBY should have looked, but Monty Oum didn't have two pennies to rub together for the immense cost. If this somehow eclipses the main RWBY series, the franchise may be headed in a very interesting direction.

Not quite; it's a recap of the first two seasons and then it's going to spin off into its own thing. Also, that rumor about the latter volumes not being what Monty wanted has always been fairly misguided--the overall structure was hashed out long before his death, with the then two main writers taking the lead in story by Monty's own admittance even during the early years, so the big ideas are probably still the same (the spoiler[Maidens, the Gods, the relics], etc.), though feel free to take issue with the execution, by all means! |

Somehow I managed to miss that this was a SHAFT undertaking.
That staff makes me somewhat optimistic, at least as far as the visuals are concerned. They've worked on some favorites of mine. I wouldn't mind seeing how other folks treat the setting and the characters. The writing on RWBY always was a mixed bag at best, and really only tolerable if you turned your brain off and just went with the flow. Though, I can't say I liked Tow Ubukata's treatment of Psycho Pass 2. |

First 2 episodes recap vol 1 and 2 then it moves onto an original story set between vol 2 and 3. |

Please educate yourself on what Monty actually wanted out of the show before you say this because "they're ruining Monty's vision" has literally become a meme at this point because of how rooted in hearsay and misunderstandings it is A well-researched video on the subject (which is a rarity in the RWBY community) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5JKAQ_2TUg
I would argue the opposite, that people not engaging with the show properly is how you get people not understanding basic facts about the storytelling or getting angry that certain developments later on don't conform with the version of the show they've made up in their head, among other things (which I won't mention here for fear of stirring up needless discourse, which this show is already surrounded by as is) which is an unfortunate recurring problem in the fandom. |

It clearly says it's being dubbed. How did you not see that? |

I was clearly talking about in regards to the 3 episodes that are being uploaded on Youtube on the 24th, of which it makes no mention of whether or not it's dubbed, not when it's being streamed on Crunchyroll a couple weeks afterward. Of course I know that the Crunchyroll version is gonna have a dub lmao |

But even though I paid attention, I thought the writing was mediocre in general. That's why I suggested letting it wash over you was a good strategy, because visually, it's quite nice, and there's a lot of interesting things going on a lot of the time. Sorry I can't be more specific, it's been years since I watched the early seasons of RWBY. My assessment of the show is much more generous than HBomberGuy's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81fdKWOHrdE but I have a lot of sympathy for his criticisms. |
