Now, don't get the wrong idea, I liked this movie, but in hindsight, the pacing felt too fast, even for a Sonic work. It seems like they crammed way too much into the story all at once, making the character arcs for Tails and Knuckles seem kind of... incomplete, if you know what I mean. Imagine if in the third one, instead of just Shadow, they introduce Metal Sonic, Amy, Cream and Chaos at the same time.

This probably explains why Paramount greenlit a Knuckles series for Paramount Plus before the movie even came out (that and the service is desperate for content because a lot of their planned heavy hitters haven't worked out). I mean, it worked for HBO Max, but I don't think the Knuckles show will open with a dance number.

Fantastic Beasts was actually ahead of Sonic, slightly. But with half the budget of the former, you could say Sonic came ahead...

Well, Sonic is getting a third movie and a spinoff TV series for Knuckles. Meanwhile, Warner Bros is cancelling the remaining Fantastic Beast movies due to diminishing returns from the last two films. At its current pace it's unlikely that Fantastic Beasts 3 will even turn a profit. So Sonic definitely came out ahead.

The film is nothing special but a noticeable step up from the last one and based on the games. You simply can´t say that about the last film. I still have no idea what the first has to do with the Sonic IP outside of the use of Sonic´s likeness. The creatures also look much better here as they didn´t have to CGi over an already existing and weirdly small CG model. (Eyelines have to be kept.) Look up the original look movie Sanic. He is tiny. The version in the sequel has at least twice the body mass.
Uncharted was also ok and Mario might turn out equally fine. 2022 is the year gaming films move up from dreck to Netflix Original Movie quality.

I went to see Sonic 2 last week and I liked it, in a way it's better than the first one, although there were a couple of details that I didn't like like the wedding subplot, but in the end it's still a movie aimed at a family audience, I wasn't expecing something like Sonic Adventure. Still, the post-credits scene has a lot of potential, shame that the people in the theatre left before that scene.

The problem with Fantastic Beasts in my opinion is that the story is not as engaging as the main HP saga, not to mention that the last one wasn't so good. WB is in a difficult situation, on one hand they had a recent success with The Batman but they also suffered losses with other projects like and had to delay several movies as well, not to mentione the recent company restructuration due to the Warner/Discovery merger. They desperately need more hits

So a razor thin improvement.

Yeah, I noticed Netflix does better with adapting games into series rather than movies. Castlevania, The Witcher, The Cuphead Show...

The Witcher was actually adapted from the novels, which the games are also based on.

Well, shut my mouth.
...Getting back on topic, does anyone else agree with my opinion that the narrative of Sonic 2 was a little rushed?

Sonic’s use in a Progressive commercial had far less to do with the Sonic IP than the first movie did..
