Ahh I'm looking forward to getting vol 1. I've read all of it on manga+ but the Udon release is a new translation so I want to see what it's like.
I remember being like "oh boy here we go" when I first started reading because of the fanservice, but as I continued it's like you said, you can't put it down. I ended up binging all the chapters that had been released so far at the time and wanting more really bad.
The fanservice really just kinda fades away (beyond like Ushio almost always wearing a swimsuit or Hizuru having large boobs) so it stops being a detraction, at least for me.

It's weird saying this, but I too forgot how this series used to have fanservice in the early chapters.
When I first saw this, I totally thought this was a romcom. Man, talk about subverting expectations.

Wow, are you me? Reading this felt like someone had just reached into my brain and told me exactly what I wanted to know, in exactly the way I would’ve phrased it. Uncanny! This was nowhere near on my radar, but this has everything I love, and knowing that the story is strong enough to withstand distracting fanservice (kinda reminds me of early Meiruko-chan, which I also love, but forgot how dang *thirsty* that series was in the beginning) is enough to sell me on this.

This is going to be streaming on Disney+? Do you think they will tone down the fanservice?
Since when does the Mouse stream anime that is not Ghibli? Heck they gave away that one already before the big launch anyway.

Since now. This is the first time Disney+ is simulcasting anime (other than Star Wars Visions, but that's their IP), at least worldwide (I don't recall hearing them doing it in Japan before either).
Since this is new to them, I can't guess if they are going to require content changes like they have done to some of their back catalog. The fanservice is relatively tame from what I recall (just distracting early on). I am more curious about if they will tone down the violence or black it out (like in Akudama Drive); there is a lot of that here.

I am going to watch this to see how our little world is changing, with the Mouse getting in on this business. I am sure it has a lot to do with the punching weight of the director that they decided to pick this up. I will be intrigued.
With Funimation merging service with CR, we are already losing/gaining in strange ways. I checked CR last couple nights and I am not seeing any Funimation simulcast titles there yet.

Yeah, I'm another reader in the camp of "almost giving up the title due to the distracting and pointless fan service" but once I got past it, it didn't matter any more because the story is so good and the fan service pretty much goes away (ridiculously large boobs excepted. Alas.). Which of course then causes you to wonder 'why include it in the first place?' This is one case where eliminating all that at the beginning will actually improve the show as you won't be surprised and distracted and wonder what it is you are watching. It will certainly be interesting to see how Disney+ manages this title.

I feel like it was done in a bit of a bait and switch to lull you into a sense of security perhaps, but the problem with doing that is it's possible people will just stop reading...
For Disney, I'm not going to write it off just yet because I believe they do have more violent stuff on their service. I guess it's more an issue of if they're marketing it to kids (because it's animation) or not...
I'd like to have faith they can handle it well but that's because I really want to watch this series in its full form

Do also take into consideration that this manga ran in Shonen Jump+, so the fanservice more than likely played exactly into the general readership of that digital service.

For the worries about Disney+, it's worth noting Daredevil and all the other Netflix Marvel shows are coming to D+. I've only seen Daredevil out of them, but there's a lot of violence, blood, gore, drugs, etc. In turn, they're also updating their parental controls.
Point is, if the fanservice remains in the show, I don't see any reason Disney would have to censor things unless they go the delusion of "it's animation, so it's for kids."
The only other option is if the fanservice is omitted completely from the start as a decision by the director/staff.
Anyway, I'll be honest, I haven't read this title. Just looking into it in anticipation of the anime. But maybe I'll check out the manga if it's as good as everyone's saying.
