NPD Bookscan does US-specific sales reporting. It’s mentioned in the article towards the bottom.

It really is shameful of Kodansha that they’re still selling Akira as left-to-right, as the paperbacks are the main way it’s sold in stores. They really should have updated them to have the same content/editing as the more recent hardcovers.

I really like the "efficiency" metric! Also, I was not expecting Junji Ito or especially Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun to be that high.

Surprised but happy to see Wotakoi on the second list. It's great to see it's selling that well.

I'm fine with having both versions available. Compared to other flip jobs, there was a lot of work put into the left-to-right edits back in the day (as seen in Akira Club), and it shows. It's also more accessible to those who, for whatever reason, are uncomfortable reading right-to-left.
