It’s 13 volumes and they’re adapting the entire thing in 25 episodes? What is with the new trend of trying to adapt so much material in so few episodes. Is it just so they advertize it’s a “complete adaptation”? I would much rather watch a really good partial adaptation than a badly rushed full one.
Also it’s really trippy seeing “streaming on Disney+”.

That much isn't a new trend, in fact it's pretty much the norm. Beside the manga has a lot of action scenes, especially towards the end. Anymore than two course would make the pace absolute glacial.

I have no idea if it's got something to do with her being dead(?), but is that girl gonna wear swimsuit wherever she goes? Was that what she wore when she died?

Yeah, exactly. Anime is still perceived by the executives as a means to an end generally. It is meant to promote something else monetizable and hopefully break even for its production. If it makes a bit of profit for the investors, then great. But no way the original narrative is going to get the priority. It can, but it often does not. Just because you and I think a well-paced and well-produced story is important does not mean the people investing into the show believe the same thing.

This answers your question without explaining why, though this could influence how you interpret what happens early in the series. She does appear in her swimsuit most of the time. There is an explanation for why her wearing something impractical and being barefoot isn't a problem, and the reason she doesn't usually wear anything else is part of the plot. It does feel like that reason is partially an excuse to draw her in a swimsuit at first, but it becomes a part of the mystery. The manga does have some fanservice that I think is unnecessary at times, but it's not a big deal in my opinion since it usually doesn't get in the way of the mystery and suspense.

...oh, it's Disney+? Well then, I can actually watch it!
The show looks pretty interesting and it's good to know beforehand it will be a complete adaption.

I am less put off by her being constantly in a swimsuit as I am the combination of her being A. constantly in a swimsuit
B. in love with the main character
C. dead.
D. still somehow the female lead (as opposed to her still alive little sister)
I haven't read the original work and only know the info above from doing a bit of research upon hearing about the adaptation. But I really hope that there is a good explanation that doesn't remind anyone of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day or Dusk Maiden of Amnesia.
And I am still very skeptical that Disney+ America is going to have shows with dark themes and fanservice like this one and Black Rock Shooter. My guess is both are going to be shunted to Hulu in the states. (Which is a good thing by the way. Being a great source for anime was one of the things that kept Hulu viable back in the day.)

yoko hikasa as best girl is very good I am pleased
still pissed it's on disney but please otherwise
also STR is interesting because with one of the MCs only wearing a swimsuit 99% of the time you'd think there'd be more fanservice but there's only really fanservice at the start of the manga
