I hope this translates to a season two confirmation.

If first season success doesn't translated enough into that, movie will be just confirmation of the fact.

This article should probably be deleted or at the very least rephrased as to not spread misinformation. Toho did make the statement that they "hoped for 1 million admissions", but that was at 3PM, and the movie fell way short of that. At the time it was tracking slightly ahead of Mugen Train, which recorded 910k admissions on its opening day, but Mugen Train obliterated it on its evening shows. The tracked numbers have it a bit over 700k tickets sold nationwide. Which is still fantastic, second best opening day ever in fact, but nowhere near that number.
The mentioned 10 billion is also not for its opening weekend, FYI. 10 billion opening weekend in japan is not even physically possible. There simply aren't enough seats.

10 billion Mark is for Entire run not Weekend. It will never be big as Demon Slayer movie, not even close I reckon. It might as well make something around $100M in Japan though.

The article said 10 billion weekend initially, though, so I'm guessing it was corrected after someone saw my comment.
And this opening is really really strong, so I would be very surprised if it missed 10 billion full run. It would need to have very poor legs for that happen from this point onwards.
