You can actually choose the trainer’s gender in Uma Musume and the dialogue with the girls barely changes (with them using the trainer’s verbal ticks being different depending on the gender and when the characters specifically use gendered pronouns.) And, in Love Live, “Anata” in the game doesn’t have a specific gender so they can be whatever the player wants them to be. With regards to the anime versions, in Uma Musume the Trainer has more “romantic” interaction with Ohana than any of the girls. The girls have more character development with the other girls, Teio and McQueen literally go on what the VAs themselves call a date, so calling him a self-insert is really iffy. |
