Basically, if you try to snitch or whine that Khara said no Rei hentai, you gon' get clapped and they ain't gonna help you.

That’s typical the opposite of how it works. You leave your definitions vague because you’re opening the door to having it enforceable on as much as possible. |

If the intention is not to censor / control / prohibit, then what is the purpose of these guidelines? Why did they do this from the start if with a minimum of reason they should know that it would not be well accepted?
Did they be forced to do this because their new "masters" said they should take action on the doujin and so as not to enrage them and at the same time the fans did they make these sloppy and subtle guidelines? (mode on conspiracy theory). But seriously, this is ridiculous and unnecessary, I work in a company and guidelines are serious things, It is not something that is created if there is no intention to change the environment. |

This has been a gigantic shitshow and Khara has no one but themselves to blame. At this point artists might as well say "Screw it" and ignore Khara's "guidelines" because if they're going to keep flip-flopping this much they don't deserve to be taken seriously. This has officially gone nowhere.

We wanted to clarify to our fans that our censorship guidelines are meant to be as broad and vague as possible so that we can deny that our censorship guidelines are censoring anyone. We hope everyone now understands and we apologize for the confusion we intentionally created.

lol, sounds more like backtracking to avoid bad publicity. Rules exist to restrict, not liberate, and making them vague only widens the net of potential restrictions and creates a chilling effect. (assuming it is effective) To not realize that is just incompetence.
On another note, the only way to enforce this is through legal action, which is what companies already do for illegal stuff profiting off an IP or tarnishing the brand image. There was no reason to draw attention to this if the plan wasn't to crack down. And everyone knows how bad it looks to be punching down on fan works, no matter how objectionable. Just asinine all around. |

So what the hell was all that hooplah to begin with? First they post it, call it guidelines, and then they back peddle. First off, if they had no intention on limiting what fans can and can't depict with their properties, then why call it guidelines? Why not just do the simplest thing and say "we as a company do not espouse the views depicted in sexually explicit fanart, the views of fanart are of their own and not of our company..." and leave it at that?

they should have left well enough alone! sure forbiding porn companies from using their characters as onaholes is ok. im definitely in agreement with that! but scaring artists like mogudan and saigado from making anymore doujins when their the primary reasons why the series haven't been obscurred from history after the end of eva movie is FREAKING SUICIDAL! they ahould take a hint from nintendo when it came to pkmn doujins created by gambler club and QUIT WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE! |

You know? I think a company that stated their rule on something common like violence, pornography, etc. is what make the company look clean and complete even if in this case they won't really punish someone who break it as it's already a 'normal' cultural thing. It's better to have that kinda rule already in their wall so that any kind of problem by fans is fans problem only. Like, they already stated where they will stand officialy or formally, so any kind of unofficial or fan-made content after this 100% don't have any tie with the said company, that's why the fan will have more freedom to create what they want because the company will not take any blame with this. Well, then again that's only my own thought.

I believe that the rules were written ahead of some sort of contest the new owners of Eva were planning and they wanted to clamp down on the adult content before the new film for this promotion. The on!y problem being that the on!y fan community more toxic than American anime fans are Japanese otaku. When they have no face all that pent up anger flows in to the internet.
