Why the world thought we needed this is beyond me... Live action BL has always been absolutely appalling. The last live action BL stage play I attended (a decade back, mind you) faded to black on *kisses* of all things (as in, the lights went down and they faded to black before the kiss happened... It was only meant to be a kiss, nothing more.)
But to hold this in Golden Week? When last I heard the first vaccinations aren't even meant to be distributed in Japan until March? Cases in Tokyo are spiking (we were down to a dozen cases [cases! not deaths!] a day in May and now we're up in the hundreds, approaching a thousand.
JR and its spinoff SekaKoi are guilty pleasures of mine. I'd want to go see this, even knowing what a train wreck it'll probably be for any of half a dozen reasons. But this should've been put off til at least the fall, when vaccinations will be much more widespread and packing fans of one of the longest (the longest?) running, super popular BL series into this theater won't be tempting fate :/

But like, the main relationship is one based on rape and continuous sexual assault… How does that work in live-action without it being completely offensive and awful? I know it’s Japan and all, but STILL.

I haven't seen any stage plays where the actors kiss for real, regardless of whether it's BL or not. However, Japanese productions of Broadway musicals may be different.
When I saw the Persona 5 stage play in October, the audience seats were spaced out and the production decided to offer goods on their website and livestreamed two shows instead of one for people who couldn't go. So they may do that this time as well.
