This is pretty much the final number as the release of the PS5 is just around the corner. This is however a really good end result with a solid 3rd place in the list of best selling consoles of all time.
We'll see if and how good the PS5 will fare, the XBOX One wasn't much of a rival after all, though this doesn't mean that the new XBOX won't. |

It's hard to believe the PS4 is already a 7 year old console. But if you figure that the series has existed for over 25 years, the 4th one has aged well (we're due for a new reiteration every 6.25 years).

I keep hearing from companies that we shipped x amount of x item. To me that doesn't sound like you sold that much to consumers. It might equate what you sold to retailers and consumers. But this is my opinion.

Still surprised we never got a super slim PS4. The dieshrink possibilities are very much there and the manufacturing costs could be a lessened a good deal. Without a super slim model the PS4 is going to have a much worse tail than the previous PlayStation systems.

What's your problem? Its a fiscal report. If you were keeping up with the sales announcements, you'd know that at the start of the year, Sony announced the PS4 sold 106m to consumers while the fiscal report stated that they shipped 108.9m in the same time frame. Your making a deal about a 2-3 million difference between shipped and sold when that is normal. Sony will most likely announce how many the PS4 actually sold before the PS5 launch. It should be at the 110m mark. |

I believe that for the longest time when Sony says 'sold', they mean 'sold-through' as in - to customers. 'Shipped' is what is in the retail channel.
Even with PS5 coming out, that doesn't mean PS4 will stop selling. PS5 is really expensive, especially in other parts of the world. There are still many games coming for PS4, including big titles like Horizon 2, and I suspect God of War Ragnarok will as well, then there's The Last of Us 2's multiplayer mode which will be its own thing. Cyberpunk 2077 got delayed and will be getting current gen releases, however these turn out, but people will buy in for that too. So I expect PS4 will still get the 10-Year treatment much like Sony's other consoles. Even Microsoft is keeping the Xbox 1 S around and dropped the One X. So I suspect Sony will keep the base PS4 around as the budget console and stop manufacture of the PS4 Pro. Anyone in the market for those consoles would likely just opt for the next gen consoles anyway. Not to mention plenty of other 3rd party games still have to be released here, like Persona 5 Scramble, and the Persona 5 staff that formed Studio Zero have Re:0 Fantasy that nobody has heard form in awhile that knowing Atlus will still be targeted for current gen, not to mention stuff like Elden Ring and other Japanese titles. Given both Sony and Microsoft expect slower uptake of next-gen, to the point that Microsoft has the lower speced Series S means current-gen stays relevant. Especially for Microsoft with Game Pass. |

But that's the thing, the PS4 is not priced as a budget console.
It's still $300/30,000 yen. So without a super slim (and the corresponding price-cut as a direct results of a manufacturing savings due to the dieshrink) there isn't going to be 10 years of the PS4. A digital-only PS5 is just $100 more and a PS5 is just $200 more. Without a super slim the PS4 is dead. |

They could always substantially slash the price of either the pro or the original. Don't know why they'd release a super slim.
Which at least for the moment Tecmo-Koei doesn't look like they're going to be releasing anytime soon.
He tends to unnecessarily overdramatize certain things people say for some bizarre reason. |

The same reason any 'smaller' remodel is done. It saves manufacturing costs since they can produce more product from the same amount of silicon. Why else would price cuts line up with the introduction of a 'slim' model? |

There were special offers at around 200€ since 2016 and even without one I've never seen a 300,- price tag for the normal one for years, 300,- is the pro. |

They've cut prices as well when introducing the next gen systems too though. And barring the PS3 they traditionally never make even more smaller consoles. |

Uhh... Did you bother even checking, at all? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-playstation-4-1tb-console-black/5850905.p?skuId=5850905 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-PlayStation-4-1TB-Slim-Gaming-Console/101507200 https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/playstation-4/consoles/products/playstation-4-slim-black-1tb/10147719.html 3 of the largest retailers for video games and they all have the PS4 slim at $299.99. That is the every day normal price for a PS4. Yes, there are sales maybe 2-3 times a year where there's a lower price, but when referring to MSRP it's the standard retail price. |
