I mean, if you're popular and people like your works, this is likely going to happen regardless. Especially with fans in the West if you make a new work that has no official English release yet. I think if something's going to be serialized, it's going to happen because it's good, not because the first chapter is being pirated. Not saying it's a good thing, but cancelling your series because of it seems kinda silly.

I began reading Dai Dark recently because I love Doro Hedoro, but I don't think there's a way for me to officially support it except for buying physical volumes I can't read. Confused

This is so sad. When I saw the tweets, I googled the series since I hadn’t heard of it before and the first entry was a link to the scanlation on (Removed). I did my fair share of reading illegal scans when I was younger, but I’m lucky enough to know a decent amount of Japanese since I took some classes in college, so now I buy most books/magazines from BookLive! or comic pixiv to help support the artists and authors.

This is a weirdest excuse ever. Yes, it sucks when this happens but it's inevitable and (still) no evidence that it affects sales at all. This just feels like they realized they couldn't do serialization and wanted an out and this was an easy way out.

These days hundreds, or thousands of mangas still don't have an official English translations. Official English translations are still not common. Not to mention some official English translations are not good.

Can ANN censored M*ngaP*us and V*z by names 'cause both of them are not great. If all illegal manga websites are shutdown, reading mangas will end up more inaccessible.
Anyway, V*z still sleeps on Saiki K. and Maiko-San chi no Makanai San. (Both of them don't have an official English translations)

Plus a lot of official English manga releases are years behind the releases in Japan, and fans of the series often don't have the patience to wait when it's readily available online.

This is a buck wild thing to say

Maybe instead of inventing rationalizes people should just admit that they don't care that they're stealing and save everyone some time.

This seems like one of those situations where an author is cutting off their nose to spite their face. Will there be another second chapter released later or is the mangaka cancelling the work in its entirety because of this? Seems rather overblown either way. I've never heard of extremely famous mangaka like Oda decide to cancel a chapter because they don't like that their works appear on unauthorized websites.

People read manga on TikTok and Instagram? Seriously?

Also, never heard of this manga until now. I guess, there's that. Lol.

A new manga with no licensing announcement(at the time) by a popular mangaka gets translated and posted? I mean, really, what exactly did they expect would happen? Might as well ask if water is wet Rolling Eyes ...
(well, technically water itself is not wet, but makes other materials wet...)

Credit where credit's due, once the scanlation team found out it was licensed they took it down.

I don't care that I'm stealing. (But I don't consider myself a fan of manga in general, so that hardly matters.)

The last story like this I saw was also created by a yaoi author with apparently very few English-speaking fans. animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2020-03-03/yaoi-manga-artist-hatoko-machiyo-issues-statement-on-scanlations/.157117 Maybe doing this will become a trend.

How stealing is that most legal mangas sites are inaccessible and/or region-locked(like V*z), and there are mangas who still don't have an official English translations.

Let me play the world's smallest violin for all the people in this thread complaining that an author made a decision about their own work. And I hope your balls of steel never rust and you continue to support pirate sites and steal from your "favorite mangaka" 'cause how dare they try to make a living.

I don't actually think anyone in this thread has complained about anything though? An artist can do whatever they choose with their own work, but folks are free to comment on it.

I read it like that too, to be honest. However, if -so- many people were pirating the -first- chapter, that tells me it was based on name-recognition, not necessarily the new series itself. Which kinda implies it would've had some level of success. Oh well.

the amount of people in this forum justifying and the entitlement is sickening.

too bad if it's not license, too bad if you are too broke to buy, too bad if you can't read Japanese

manga isn't a necessary, you can live without.

the fact is scanlations are not paying the artists their dues

the non Japanese fandom is full of hypocrite and xenophobe, when western artists whines about people plagiarizing, fans get super angry and help take down the ripoff, but when Asian artists complain, the non Japanese fandom mocks, tries to justify why they are reading illegal uploads/making scans, refuse to take scans down

i have read about some Japanese artists who refuse their works to be license in English due to being turnoff by these behaviors and it's understanding.

Unlike anime, officially translated manga outside of the bigger names are a drop in a bucket, I don't blame those who read what aren't...

But some attention will help pay infinitely more than none at all, whether in the form of pixiv subscriptions, followed amazon links, merchandise, etc...

There's definitely been cases where western artists have been caught red-handed plagiarizing Japanese works, Bleach and a certain Nick Simmons come to mind... But what's plagiarizing got to do with unofficial translations? Actually, I can answer that for you, nothing, nothing at all except for the illicit nature of it...

Strange logic, you've just pushed people interested to check out your works to read the 'unofficial' translations of them. Congratulations, I think?...
