The show has been a very grounded, faithful adaptation of the manga so far, which made that Kuroko-like shot all the more distracting. Using that screenshot to promote the episode on Twitter made it even worse.

Sora also looks like Touma from Index. I couldn't help but laugh.

Just to clarify is the author only angry about the eye glint only or the anime adaptation in general?

I like this Anime, I think story wise it's considerably better then the boring Kuroko no Basket. However animation wise, this Anime is lacking, especially during the games where they only use still shots. The opening probably has more action then the actual episodes.

Wait what’s his issue with the protagonist ending up in the NBA exactly?

I don't know, but I can only guess he wanted to avoid some sort of copyright claim or getting sued by the NBA or something. Copyright laws are a bit more lax in Japan than in the US.

From what I watched of the anime (the first cour + a bit more), this show follows characters that start below your average underdog in other similar sports stories. Most of them are initially delinquents playing for fun (with some useful, but incredibly rough, quirks) and, even when they eventually do get serious, have a hard time comparing to actual teams in their area. Escalating from where they were when I stopped watching all the way to the NBA, even in four cours, would be ridiculous, plus would not match what the story is about.

The protagonist is someone who has been serious about becoming a basketball player for a long time, practicing daily even though he couldn't form a team before the show started (being raised in a town with a tiny school before moving to a city). But IIRC it was for the love of the sport and/or playing on behalf of his mom, not to become the best.

Based on the translated text in the article, it seems the author is annoyed at anybody trying to make Ahiru no Sora about what it's not. It isn't a push to the top.

Seems like bullshit. What anime nowadays just straight up makes up a definitive ending for an ongoing manga adaptation? That just doesn't really happen anymore.
Just sounds like a salty author who eventually takes the money he can get but is butthurt his work isn't decent enough to get a major studio making it, or just loves nitpicking stuff anime has to take liberties on like some manga readers do.
